Don't know how true it is. Guess can put nothing past this guy.
Came across it on gazzetta dello sport on here Linky
I'll try and translated it for you guys some time tomorrow...too tired out right now....

<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE <div class='quotemain'>MILAN, 17 February 2008 - Michael Schumacher, seven times champion of the world of F.1 but great lover also of the motion, could participate to a GP of imminent the MotoGP class of the by now World-wide one, in saddleback to one Ducati. It writes, bringing back the news also in the edition online, the French sport daily paper the Equipe, specifying that from Schumi months it carries out regularly seated of tests on the French circuit of Bresse, where arrives in coming from helicopter from its Swiss residence in order to turn with one Ducati from acquired he. NOTHING UGLY FIGURES - Perfezionista like always, Schumi would mean to prepare itself must because it does not want to make ugly figures. The German had tried 5 slid November to Valencia using the Ducati with which Stoner he has gained the title iridato it and obtaining advanced times of approximately five second ones to that one with which it had been adjudicated the pole position in the svoltosi GP on the same circuit in 2007. SPONSOR - Hour, second the Equipe, does not remain that to see if the Dorna, than at the moment has communicated not to know any null, has intention to grant to Schumacher a wild card in order to at least run a GP that the French sport daily paper characterizes in those of the Mugello. Oltretutto, remembers the newspaper, Ferrari and Ducati has the same sponsor, Philip Morris, and the same supplier of pneumati to us, the Bridgestone.

Bablfish translation. Maybe someone else could put a better version up.
Hmmm... wasn't he like 20 seconds off pace when he tested with Ducati?

Do any of you guys get Roadracing Magazine? This month there was an article that claimed he was 5 seconds off the race pace. That would put him ahead of about three or four guys.

But I'm with Roger, I'd believe it when I see it. I know he can drive, but I doubt he's that good of a rider. (Who knows, I wasn't there taking the timing on his laps, just seems too incredible to me).

Yeah bikergirl. I saw the same on gpone.
I don't think so. Schumi cannot possibly go faster than any of the test riders. Why have a guy race when he will be absolutely dead last?

The onlyquestion I have is will Melandri be mad if Schumi passes him?

This rumour started as a result of an article that appeared on the gpone site on a day that is the Spanish equivalent of our April Fools Day. If you read the article and the comments this will be apparent.
Unfortunately this doesn't always come through with the translation.

And yes, The Shoe did get within about 5 seconds of the Qualifying time, and yes, if he could run that time consistently in the race, he would come in about 35 seconds behind the last placed rider from last years event.

notice it only states "motogp bike" and no mention of what team would give him a wild card ride.. utter bollocks !
if they allowed this it would set a precedent for any tom .... or harry with money to get a wild card ride. all it would do is undermine the credibility of the sport and be a danger to the other competitors imo.

<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE <div class='quotemain'>"It's not true at all," Ezpeleta told Gazzetta dello Sport. "Okay, maybe we'll have him racing with (Kimi) Raikkonen in a sidecar!"

It's all well and good being within five seconds, but over a race distance you're looking at being lapped, at the very least. It was a similar thing when Rossi was rumoured to be going to F1, yes he was a second off Schumi, although admittedly Rossi was testing the faster V10, but it's the last two tenths that are critical. Those last two tenths are what seperate the good from the great, and those last two tenths are so difficult to find. Admittedly, the rumour was supposedly going to be a one off, for fun. But even so, this is where anybody thinking they can step from one discipline to another, without prior experience or training in the lower rungs of the ladder, is going to slip up. Which is why the idea of Schumi stepping straight onto a MotoGP bike, without any prior motorcycle racing experience, is a recipe for disaster, for both him and his competitors.

spot on tom.

Seems to me like little old Schumi is feeling a little jealous of Rossi, wants to prove he can do it too.....thing is that Rossi at least was humble enough not to mess up an actual RACE!

But hey they do say it´s a wild rumour, here is hoping they are right.

I think if this were to happen it would be a great thing no matter the outcome. If he was anywhere near respectable then we would have witnessed a truly incredible sporting achievment, if he shows poorly then the competitiveness and difficulty of motogp would be highlighted, gaining more respect from the F1 world. Worst case scenario - hes only a bit better than Duhamel

Honestly i don't see it happening, but i am hoping.

I don't think MotoGP needs to find any respect from the F1 world. 90% of F1 fans I speak to have nothing but total respect for bike racing. You still get the odd arsehole, but generally they understand the skill and cajones involved in top level two-wheels, as does anyone with half a brain. Unfortunately, F1 doesn't tend to get the same respect from MotoGP fans
