You still get the odd arsehole, but generally they understand the skill and cajones involved in top level two-wheels, as does anyone with half a brain. Unfortunately, F1 doesn't tend to get the same respect from MotoGP fans

Well perhaps some transferable skills could help.............bring on MSC

Came across it on gazzetta dello sport on here Linky
I'll try and translated it for you guys some time tomorrow...too tired out right now....

I would rather see Harold Schumacher ( the old german goalkeeper from the 80's ) on a GP bike !

Thanks frosty and roger-m...does set my mind at ease. Seeing Schumi in a sidecar would be funny though.

Speaking of....anyone seen him in the new Asterix movie? What´s that all about? MotoGp, Movies...what's next...wait I see it now....Schumi doing a triple axle in the Worlds Figure skating championship!

Update on Shumi....maybe he is warming up for a wild card at Mugello!

March 25, 2008

Seven-times Formula 1 World champion Michael Schumacher has proved he is almost as expert on two wheels as four after a podium finish on his motorcycle racing debut.

The 39-year-old German was third on a Honda Fireblade in a cup race on the 4.5km Pannonia Ring in western Hungary on Good Friday

2007 German Superbike championship winner Martin Bauer won.

The German received some tips from former 500 GP rider Randy Mamola before climbing on to the bike. He had impressed 2007 MotoGP World champion Australian Casey Stoner last November.

Schumacher said he still preferred four wheels to two and was reported to have been very nervous before the race.

"I only did it for fun," he said. "I prefer driving." - Sapa-AFP

well, i guess the rumors will never end
and Schumi is doing his best to keep them alive

Get real for anyone hoping.

He's 38 years old. That for a start is a barrier in racing.

And he has very little riding experience, only on the road. And the track time he has had, he was SIX seconds slower than club racers.

Being six seconds slower than a club racer makes me think his Valencia time was a crock of .........

Don't think Martin Bauer can be called a club racer really, but yeah I agree it won't happen.

He's the same age as Bayliss and he always kept super-fit.
He will never win a race in MotoGP, but why rule out that he could take part as a wildcard? He is an expert of TC after all - I bet he would not dare riding the Ducati without any rider aids, but as things are he can. His presence would bring even more attention to the sport. Dorna would be happy!
But surely he needs to be able to lap not more than 3-4 seconds off Stoner's pace. Something he could achieve I think... His personal motivation is the 'need for speed' in his DNA so that's ok

I don't get why motogp people think rossi doing well in an F1 trial is unsurprising, but decry any possibility of schumacher doing even vaguely well on a bike; I would have thought the stature and degree of talent displayed by each in their respective sports is similar, which is hardly being insulting to either of them

I was also wondering where that came from. It might have been a club race but as long as the german champion compete the camparison doesn't stick.

I would be fairly surprised if michael schumacher rode in an actual motogp race too, just not surprised if he could do a moderately fast lap with a reasonable amount of practice.

I think everyone is getting confussing about WHY MS would be considered for a wildcard - publicity and PR.

Can you imagine how much press this would generate even if he got lapped 50 times.

or "ESPECIALLY if he got lapped 50 times"

I suspect he wouldn't do it if he thought he would be lapped even a few times. I agree about the public relations coup though.

I've also read that Schuey was on a 1000cc bike, whilst the other competitors were on 600's.

What a guy!

Bottom line is that the Shumi brings media attention. It is a great thing to bring more people to the sport of Motogp.

I don't see what is wrong with using him one-time for Mugello to draw more media coverage (as long as he doesn't become like a Kurtis Roberts and make people crash....um...Marco).

I am sure he will fair better then Kurtis and he won't finish last like West.

So, I say give him that wild-card!

surely u jest..... he'd be like a rollin road block.
