How irresponsible can this get? How can a MotoGP conducting authority be so blind to the obvious here? How can its official site be used to propagate such kind of a joke?

May be it is real. But doesnt the Lorenzo here have a first name or a last name?

Rossi gives Jerez Trophy to a special fan

Rossi gives Jerez Trophy to a special fan

The trophy from the Spanish GP battle now belongs to a young patient at the Parma children’s hospital.

Italian publication gazzetta.it has revealed that Spanish GP winner Valentino Rossi chose to donate the trophy along with a selection of signed gifts, t-shirts & caps.

The recipient of the trophy - Lorenzo - is a patient at the pediatric oncology ward at the hospital. He was presented with his souvenir by the head of Rossi’s official fan club, Flavio Fratesi, who had promised Lorenzo ahead of the race that if Valentino won, the cup would be his.

Flavio had told him: “When Vale wins the GP, I’ll bring you the cup”. Promise kept.

Bitching about a nice gesture...cynicism at it's very worst.

When Lorenzo's collaborated with Ana Rives, it's been dismissed as a publicity stunt purely for Lorenzo's glorification by many Rossi fans. The fact that he gives his time to go and have lunch with kids at local orphanages is pretty much ignored by the press.
I'm not disparaging Rossi's gesture, but the Italian press are definitely muckraking by throwing the Lorenzo name connection in.
Hence the criticism...

I never heard of that one, but much acclaim for him doing it, and the same goes for anyone in all three classes

MotoGP, Rossi che bel regalo! Gadget e la coppa

MotoGP, Rossi what a treat! Gadgets and Jerez cup to sick children
To hospital of Parma Children we were delivered many gadgets autographed by the pilot. Trophy won Sunday is ended, as promised, in the hands of a little patient for the usual photos
April 28, 2016 - MILAN
The delivery of the trophy to the Hospital of Parma.
Cannibal on track, tender out. It is the portrait of Valentino Rossi emerging reading a report in the Parmadaily. Immediately after the success at the GP of Jerez, last Sunday, the Yamaha champion has sent the Children's Hospital of Parma many gadgets, T-shirts and caps autographed as a "very special" gift for a young patient: just won the cup in Spain.

THE PROMISE - A hand it to little Lorenzo, a young patient of Pediatric Oncology and structure and great fan of Valentino, was Flavio Fratesi, head of Rossi's official fan club. A promise kept, because a few months ago Fratesi had been visiting the Hospital Association Giocamico department and he had met the young fans: "Just Vale wins a grand prize will bear the cup", had guaranteed. Promise kept.

These level of athletes are in somewhat of a 'no win' situation with stuff like this as to some it will be publicity seeking, where to others it will be a genuine act of kindness, gratitude, generosity or care.

Not saying anything with regards to the OP's link but I suspect that Rossi gives a lot of time and items and maybe money to a lot of 'charitable' causes that are close to his personal life and thus unfortunately when one goes public we will have cries of all manner as to whether it was genuine or stage managed etc.

Other riders are also in the same boat as the likes of the higher profile riders will provide time, items or money for those less fortunate and will also be on the receiving end of positive and negative comments, sadly it is a thing of the world today in that if we are fans, we say awesome, great work, but if we are not we seem to believe that the act is done for publicity and self aggrandisment purposes.

Of course, ALL of these guys and their teams do a huge level of this work unrewarded as they do not seek it, and out of the public eye but occasionally an act gets into the public sphere and from that we judge.

Just for me, but these guys and girls are in a position to bring a little something to brighten a day or make the circumstances a little easier on the individual or a suffering family, then I applaud them, one and all
