Rossi was Ducatis 2nd choice??

Hey Jumkie, I think the long post was unnecessary. It would be more pertinent to cite the quotation and analyse it in context, rather than considering what the word lesser means in isolation.

Question :"Which would Valentino be closer to?

“Difficult to say, without knowing where the weight is on the bike and how it behaves. But, without question, I don’t anticipate any major dramas. I can watch some of these lesser riders on the Ducatis and you can see that the bikes are, in my opinion, unsuitably set for what they want to try and do with them. I’m not saying anybody’s doing a bad job. I see these things wobbling around. When I think, clearly, if we had that issue with Valentino it’d be fixed in 80 seconds, but some riders don’t like the hardness of the bike, because they don’t get the feel. But then when they’re riding around and it’s too soft they’re not going forward either. So you’ve got to be able to create the feel with the hardness to avoid all that sloppiness. I don’t think there are any issues in the bike that are a big worry to me. I think the bike is just a tool to do your job. You sharpen the tool at the race track, you don’t build it. you should be able to adjust it to what Valentino wants. And until we’ve got a race or two under belts, we won’t really know how close we are or how much better we’ve made it. but if we can make it, as it stands here today, good for Valentino, then it’s probably not a bad bike. Then we just have to wait and see what happens.”

Casey Stoner, no matter how you interpret it, is not a 'lesser' rider. I think that is a very stretched interpretation! He is clearly referring to the Satellite Ducatis, like Hector Barbera, Aleix Espargaro and Mika Kallio.

Why do I say this?

"I can watch some of these lesser riders on the Ducatis and you can see that the bikes are, in my opinion, unsuitably set for what they want to try and do with them."

Let's analyse this statement. He is watching 'some of these lesser riders on the Ducatis'. You will note that he did not indicate that he is not commenting on all the Ducatis. If so, he would make a statement like 'I can watch the riders on the Ducatis and you can see that the bikes are, IMO, unsuitably set for what they want to try and do with them'. But, he did not make such a comment. He referred to the lesser riders on the Ducatis only.

Let's consider who rides the Ducati Desmosedici GP10. AE, HB, MK, CS and NH. In that group, clearly Casey is not one of the lesser riders. Arguably, Nicky isn't either. This leaves the Satellite riders.

Now this is the new definition of OWNED!!!!!!!

Thanks RC for providing the crucial evidence, as many, including myself, were disputing the haters rubbish digs on JB's 80 second comment.....

Not only did the 80 second comment have nothing to do with the other riders, it had nothing to do with Fixing the Ducati on a whole at all!!!! with JB clearly stating, 'With Valentino' We could fix that particular problem, in 80 seconds.........

Dually noted that the argument abruptly ended here.......Any more Hater comments on the 80 second statement? Please I need some more laughs today......

The only problem with your line of argument is that they don't appear to have fixed the problems of the "lesser" riders either (particularly if these riders include hayden, who I personally would agree is not a lesser rider but is actually slower than he was pre- rossi/jb) having had considerably more than 80 seconds to do so.

I think both this statement by jb , and rossi's concerning stoner not pushing hard enough were arrogant and karma-challenging, like claims that stoner is already over the line for the 2011 championship. They still have time to fix the ducati and justify any arrogance they might have, as they have done previously, but whatever happens jb will not have succeeded in 80 seconds or whatever time , presumably short, that this figuratively implies. Valentino also perhaps now has more appreciation of how hard stoner was pushing and particularly of how difficult it is to push hard on the dcucati.

Thanks for the kind words, but I don't see it as some an argument between Jumkie and I. Rather, it's just a simple exchange of opinions. I think he'll be pleased to consider the issue from another angle which he seemed not to have previously contemplated.

In any case, I am quite curious regarding Burgess' thoughts regarding the Ducati. Specifically, what seems to make the Ducati a relatively inaccessible machine from which to extract performance.

I don't think he will make any statements critical of ducati or their bike now he is in their employ, and certainly not before he has fixed the problems.

JB is the consummate gentleman and I have no doubts that he'll be most kind.

I think the Italian chap riding it, who has a history of speaking out about tyres, team mates and rules will be the one to watch in terms of the publication of inglorious opinions.

That actually is the argument, JB distinctly mentions, 'With Valentino' We would fix that particular problem in 80 seconds, doesn't mean he will fix it with or for anyone else in 80 seconds.......

Luckly he has fixed that problem quick, for he needs .... loads of time to fix all the rest!!!!

And come up with an engineering feat to just match the big H this year.......
