Anyone read about the situation with the princess and her gently pushing vale to ride alongside his brother?
Not only his response, the mere fact that his team is armco ducati, and not petronas yamaha, tells me that there is practically no way he rides next year.
These hairy chics in dresses ruin racing.

Looks like the Aramco deal may not materialise, forcing Rossi to ride in order to attract sponsors for his VR46 team.

My guess… the humiliation of doddling around in 19th place all season is not an experience he wants to repeat. He’s not stupid. If he doesn’t want to ride, he’ll figure a way to finesse things in his favor. He’s got bajillions of dollars socked away, so he’s not exactly living paycheck to paycheck. Nobody is going to force him to do anything he doesn’t want to do.

I am not so sure. He is not going to spend tens of millions of his own money, and it is getting late in proceedings to land a major sponsor for next year. I think his stocks were much higher 5 years ago, and I again go back to the 2009 title, if he had retired after that title as I still have some idea may have been the original plan his reputation would have been unassailable and he would have had sponsors lining up for a VR46 team.

I agree regarding his money. If there's one way to lose all your money, it's to dump it in the running of a team without the required sponsorship.

With his current riding and run of results, I'm thinking his ability to attract sponsorship will be no worse than if he was just a very visible presence in the running of the VR46 Team from race to race. He would be interviewed regularly and the VR46 Team would attract more attention. I actually think it would be better since his riding with such poor results is attracting more negative than positive press. IMO, it's time to retire and take on a different role.

I think he will still be an icon in his retirement eventually, and be remembered for his many years of greatness. Just at the moment he is hardly the witty happy go lucky guy who always won everyone adored, and the world situation is also hardly the best one for finding sponsorship, particularly overnight.

Precisely. + Having two talented young riders on the team, increases the potential for results = greater exposure for sponsors.

Saudis have billions to piss away on projects to increase their profile with the international business community, and in general love to lavish money on any event that raises their sense of prestige, but other businesses looking to put dollars into sponsorships - may be more pragmatic, and look to invest where the greatest results seem most likely. At this point nobody is betting the house on Rossi even going top ten with any regularity.

this kicked me right in the childhood. I was a stoner/lorenzo fan but vr46 was there from first grade all the way through university.

Everyone is going to leave the sport at one time and its finally Rossi's time. Can't say I blame him. With his competitiveness in decline I would find it hard to argue that he should stay. Hard to believe that he has remained in the sport this long.

Love or hate the guy I don't think we can deny that he has provided us with some great entertainment over the years (for both good and not so great reasons).
