Mercedes may also be annoyed that ron essentially threw away an F1 drivers championship as well as a manufacturers championship, such championships having been in short supply for mclaren in recent years. It would have been fairly easy to pick one driver mid-season and ensure that he won; it is perhaps admirable that ron didn't do this but most would have. The fine was not exactly trivial either even by corporate standards.

That's why you don't put two superstars in your team. A team is best served with a Rubens Barrichello to supplement its Michael Schumacher. I guess Dennis signed Alonso because he didn't want to gamble on Lewis being a title contender in his first year.

Exactly!!
For sure it brings more excitement to the game, but looking at it from an ''only winning'' point of view, and to maximize your chances of taking the title its always smarter to have a number one driver and a number two. It only makes sense, but I rather see two drivers fight it out..I guess all fans want to see a battle.

^ I agree with the above. Dennis is supposed to be a very difficult person to work for too, so its about time they had a facelift within that company.

Also they wanted Alonso's No.1 plate on their car for 2007 to satisfy one of their big sponsors Vodaphone so I heard....

There seems to be a lot kicking off in and around mclaren at that moment, i just hope for their sake it doesn't interfere with the job. I already expected them to be weakend by the fallout of the spying case and the loss of Alonso, but all this rumour and legal crap getting dragged out in public has to be an additional distraction to some extent.

I don't think it will affect them a lot. I'm sure they want to forget about last season as soon as possible. Winning races will help them, and I think they'll have a winning car.
