--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Top 10 excuses why Nicky won't be winning the MotoGp title again:

10. He still isn't used to the GP lifestyle
9. He still hasn't learned all the tracks
8. He's riding the worst brand of bike on the grid
7. He's riding with an injured shoulder
6. He's got HRC's most uncaring crew
5. HRC doesn't understand english
4. There are too many other bikes on the grid this year
3. The clutch again
2. He didn't sign for Yamaha or Ducati
1. The bike was made not for midgets, but for dwarf midgets

There may not actually be ten reasons, but we certainly saw 7 reasons.

Rossi’s Salary: Worth It?
Categories: Racing

After this weekend's MotoGP, can we say that Rossi is worth his €22.8 million ? Do you know that he's world's top 7th highest paid sportsman? The top ten (2006) are:

1. Tiger Woods (golf) - €74.3 million
2. Michael Schumacher (F1) - €60.9
3. Phil Mickelson (golf) - €38
4. Shaquille O'Neal (basket) - €26
5. Kobe Bryant (basket) - €25.6
6. Carson Palmer (American football) - €23.4
7. Valentino Rossi (MotoGP) - €22.8
8. Ronaldinho (soccer) - €22
9. Lebron James (basket) - €21.8
10. Derek Jones (baseball) - € 21.3

I know for one thing, if you compare his salary with the other top 10, he has done more for my viewing pleasure than all combined. How could one (great) golf player earn 3 x the salary of someone who risks life & limb? The only thing Tiger can risk is a heat stroke!

So my answer to the question: YES

Ja and add to that:
nasty people call him haystack
people say duff dogey and not trick daddy
it's not fair he's got the nr1, but honda won't traet him that way
(who did they ever treat that way - 1st comes handa, 2nd honda and get it?)
all those other riders didn't show respect

im sure david beckham should be in that list somewhere, and i agree its mad how a golfer can earn so much, someone once said to me that a golfer has to walk a good 5 miles around the course, i said a binman walks 20 miles a day so what you point.

I agree Rossi deserves to be on that list, and with what ogunski said on here that he's given me more viewing pleasure than all the rest combined. Tiger Woods? Pfffff.....I'd rather watch James Ellison race Cardoso. Seriously.

Me too. I have yet to find that person who could convince me to watch golf.

Still, your Letterman-style top ten was a great idea anyway. While I can't say I thought it was laugh-out-loud funny, like roger-m, it did make me smile.

I think you missed a few golden opportunities, though. What about all the nicknames, whether it be ones like: 'The Kentucky Kid' 'Trick Daddy' or ones like: 'Haystack' 'Hayseed' 'Farmboy'? Surely you could have found room for a Pedrosa and/or Puig comment and an Estoril-style comment? How about Earl 'Oh Lord! Thank the Lord' Hayden? ... with farm animals? Race wins?

And, finally: the number one reason why Nicky won't be winning the MotoGP title again:

1. Sometimes numbers do lie.

I could easily find 21 sportsmen that deserve to earn more than any of those grass steppers:

BARROS, Alex
CAPIROSSI, Loris
CHECA, Carlos
DE PUNIET, Randy
EDWARDS, Colin
ELIAS, Toni
GUINTOLI, Sylvain
HAYDEN, Nicky
HOFMANN, Alex
HOPKINS, John
JACQUE, Olivier
McWILLIAMS, Jeremy
MELANDRI, Marco
NAKANO, Shinya
PEDROSA, Dani
PITT, Andrew
ROBERTS Jr, Kenny
ROSSI, Valentino
STONER, Casey
TAMADA, Makoto
VERMEULEN, Chris

They should put in signs at golf courses saying: “Do not step on the grass” or “Not pets allowed”… smoke it if you like; it would be of more significance!

The question is not risk or how demanding the sport is or even how good Tiger Woods is in comparison to other greats in other sports such as Valentino Rossi. The reason Tiger makes the money he does is because golf is a sport for those with disposable income. So there is a giant market of people who have money to burn, wouldn't you want your company's logo printed on Tiger's forehead? Sure, he'll make a couple of hundred grand US or a million for winning a tournament. But the real money is in his endorsements. Same goes for Becks, that is if Real Madrid didn't have such a large stake in those claims.

Like I said in the 2006 Newsflash thread, this stuff mostly writes itself, and it doesn't matter which rider you pick!

Although I realised after posting why you probably left all of that out, because it was actually a top ten about excuses from whiny fans and not about Hayden directly as such.

Your top ten has got me thinking about one of my own now: the top ten reasons why Rossi didn't win at Qatar. I could post it in the Casey Stoner thread, put on a flame-retardant suit, and sit back and watch the fireworks erupt. But all that would do is piss off a lot of people, and that thread is just beginning to cool down anyway. Maybe I'll just save it on the hard drive for a rainy day...

How do you explain Phil Mickelson in third? I have no idea who he even is, by comparison, find me one single person who doesn't know who Roger Federer is, yet he's not there..... unfathomable o.0

Besides, lets not forget that Tiger Woods may make a million times more money, but Casey Stoner is 21 and racing gorgeous Ducati bikes. Now lets compare how many kids wanted to be golfers when they were growing up with how many wanted to be racers. I think Stoner wins this one hands down, not to mention Rossi, Hayden, Pedrosa, or even Colin Edwards.

Mickelson is the second best golfer in the world. And there isn't enough room on Federer's shirt, hat or racket to put logos all over. Thus, there probably isn't as big of a demand from companies to put their logo on his headband as there is to be on Tiger's golf bag.

I'm assuming that this is just an American thing, but over here kids who want to grow up to play golf would outnumber kids who want to grow up and race motorcycles at least 10 to one. I would be the one but still, golf is big. At least on this side of the pond.

Really? In England at least its seen as something you spend your mornings doing when you've retired o.0

People on this site would want a MotoGP racer to be on the top ten list of highest paid sportspeople, shocking. I’m one of them.

Here is why Tiger Woods makes all the cash. It's because, unlike most sports, he earns his money the old fashion way, if you win you make the big money, if you lose, you don't. That's how golf is set up. Unlike say team sports where you are paying the guy a contract regardless of how he does from the beginning. Now Tiger Woods got there by winning, which then translates into endorsements, as Austin/Ooost said. (Whatever your name is). Golf is a game that powerful and rich people play for the most part. So when you have an advertisement endorsed by Tiger Woods, you can bet the people controlling the 90%+ of the wealth are listening. That is extremely valuable; furthermore a compelling reason to pay this guy a fortune. So it is both deserved (got there by winning) and prudent (what he says or endorses sells).

BTW if anybody here has ever tried actually playing golf, you would quickly understand why this guy is so admired. He may not be running a bike at 200mph, but he can do what very few, if anybody, can match.

Anyway, back on topic. The top ten list was funny. I wonder if you meant it to be more about the Hayden haters than it was about Hayden himself. At least that’s how I read it.
