You're right mate, the Yamaha is blitzing the others through the corners and this is why it could be a good year for Colin as well as Rossi! How do you think Stoner is going to handle a WHOLE RACE full of corners at a quicker speed this year? Can't see him doing very well as a bull rider either.

That's 204.8mph in '06 to 201.8mph in '07 for Stoner. And 200.8mph in '06 to 192.6mph in '07 for Rossi. The corner speed these bikes must be carrying to slow down top speeds yet blast by lap records is insane. At the same time McWilliams is up at the top of the speed chart, but his lap times are ..... Shows that going fast in a straight line isn't the key to a winning setup.

top speed is something sometimes

yes but today its what took stoner to victory he was pulling away from rossi so quickly,a few more corners and it would of been rossi's victory
he caught up on every corner but was out powered by the ducati grunt
someone needs to tone them down a bit lol.

casey did race well today althouh i was supprised he stayed on his bike as he is king of falling off i wonder how much moneys worth of damage he caused to his bikes last year, hopefully this year he will learn to keep control on the corners and not fall off, althouh he does seem to ride well with the ducati.

Yep, 20kmph

oatar?

Yesterday surly showed that top speed is something. Tone them down?
Hell, I suspect they misunderstood the new rules and increased thoe volumeinstead and developed a 1098 desmosedichi instead of an 800 :)

Why are everybody giving Casey such a gard time about last season. He did fairly well as a rookie and everyone should be given more than one season before we declare him the crash king. It might have been the Honda or the setup he was given at LCR and as a rookie it might be hard to find the right settings in a one rider team.

Most of the greats crashed a lot their first years.Thats where you learn, by crashing.Pushing the limit is finding the limit.Rossi had a few crashes himself his rookie year on the evil 500 but by his second year he learned how far he could go and has rarely fallen since.Stoner is going to be a good one,im guessin 4th in points this year and maybe challenging in 08.

yup.hate to nit pik but he said 20kmh faster which is 12.4 mph.

well i'll tell ya stoner looked faster than rossi in the big sweepers also. just the tighter turns rossi had it in over stoner in spades. if the others don't catch up in the speed department, ducati are gonna run away at the big fast tracks! mugello, turkey, sepang jump to mind immediately!

i wouldnt mind betting yamaha can provide more top end for those tracks but will it handle and finish the race with only 21 liters of fuel, ducati seen to have it all at the moment.

Agree with all that! Plenty of corners, and a 1km straight, and in those last 2 laps Valentino didn't get within 6 bike lengths of Casey throughout the whole circuit. Valentino was also making up massive ground under braking, comparable and as significant as the speed advantage of the Ducati in a straight line.
Sure, Ducati have certainly got it right, and right from the off. But I still think Casey's performance on Saturday was above and beyond the expectations of Ducati. Valentino was also awesome, and is the obvious championship favourite, but the aura of invincibility and infallability has gone. Should be a good season.

I agree, i expect to see people beat rossi sometimes, but i don't expect any one rider to beat him on a regular enough basis to beat him to the title. But who knows whats gonna change, its still soearly on.

oh no doubt!!! i fgured him for a podium but honestly i thought it would be rossi, pedrosa, capirossi &.........

edwards. good grief he does it every season! he's great in testing & it looks like he's gonna finaly do something & then the race starts..... then he ends up in his traditional 6th place.

Nice post, sums up my thoughts on the race and the season pretty well.

He really does, I don't get it. Although this might be the year, the perceived advantage the Yams will have at tight an twisty tracks might be enough to give Colin enough for a win at Laguna. Maybe... Hopefully...
