Interesting to see Hopper up there and Checa quite fast on the Dunlops although he crashed heavily and had to be taken to the doctor with a head concussion.

1. Valentino Rossi (ITA/Yamaha YZR M 1) 1:57.36 (48 vtas) .
2. Colin Edwards (USA/Yamaha YZR M 1) 1:57.52 (60) .
3. John Hopkins (USA/Suzuki GSV RR) 1:57.6 (66) .
4. Carlos Checa (ESP/Yamaha YZR M 1) 1:57.9 (43) .
5. Chris Vermeulen (AUS/Suzuki GSV RR) 1:58.6 (62) .
6. Shinichi Ito (JPN/Ducati Desmosedici) 1:58.8 (76) .
7. James Ellison (GBR/Yamaha YZR M 1) 1:59.8 (76) .
8. Olivier Jacque (FRA/Kawasaki ZX RR) 2:00.5 (34).

Good to see Rossi back on a motorbike.
CV's still more than a second behind Hopper, and Qatar hosts a SBK round, so unlike Sepang, he should know the track. Dissapointing.
And OJ's hasn't broken the 2 min barrier yet. Why is it that I'm always dissapointed with day one results?
Ito's doing well for a test rider.

Im not surprised Hoppers in P3.

Hes a big talent and has always been good at the one lappers.

Lets just hope him and suzuki can make a good strong race package.

He is one guy like colin, who really, really deserves a podium finish.

2. Colin Edwards (USA/Camel Yamaha) 1:56.81 (76 ").

I know better than to look into times but Checa's times on the Dunlops are very intruiging to me.

That's good point....
Now were facing two possibilities:

1) Mladin was right about Dunlops
2) Checa's just really good

day 3 testing
rossi 1.56.5
edwards 1.56.8
checa 1.56.9
hopkins 1.57.6
vermuelen 1.57.8
ito 1.58.9
ellison 1.58.9
jacque 1.59.4

Go Checa with the satellite Yam!
I bet tech 3 got temselves a bargain there. Desperate for a ride, so he would have been comparitavely cheap, and he's a top ten finisher. And he's on dunlops. Good news for Ponchiral

Thats a really good ride from Checa, I bet he is buzzing!! What after not knowing if you will be on the grid in Jan, to having a really good test on new tyres (has he rode Dunlops before?)....credit where credit is due!

I think he's been on Michelins his whole career until he went to Ducati and now Tech 3. He came in with Pons Honda and to my knowledge they ran Michelins and then went to factory Yamaha and to my knowledge they had recently dumped Dunlop for Michelin. Checa will be a very valuable asset to Dunlop, there isn't anyone on the grid with as much experience in tires.
