Looks like the Yamahas are strong. Rossi usually finds some tenths in the race, so expect he and Mav to have the pace.

Marquez looks strong.

Laptimes aside, the Ducatis will be very difficult to race against and actually pass, as usual due to their awesome acceleration, top speed and braking. They hold up their rivals mid-corner, then blast away on the exit.
 
Honda had the fastest top speed at the Qatar Test IIRC. Ducati won't have the advantage they are used to this yr.

True! But lets not forget acceleration. If it is weak there, top speed wont be helpful by itself. I've not heard/read any comment on that yet. I'm hoping that wont be a problem.

Nice graphs. It really helps get a picture on the testing. A lot of Yamahas up near the front. But, not surprisingly, MM gets better the longer the runs.

You beat me by a few seconds. ;) You can lose a quarter-mile race with the top speed. It happens all the time. I will bet those Desmos will be pulling with the best of them come race day.

Rins did really well, I hope he gets a couple of wins this year as otherwise it'll be a boring Honda/Ducati circulatory again.
 
were those times all from the same stint? or just top 5,10,20 from multiple stints through out the day?
also it does not say which tire set ups they were running

On a closed course you need acceleration to establish top speed. Someone mentioned quarter mile top speed being beaten by acceleration is partially true but is 90 % reaction time that makes that happen, not superior acceleration.

Not quite. Run a ZR1 against a 911 Turbo. The 911 Turbo isn't beating it down the quarter due to reaction time - it's the ability to put more power to the ground, even though the ZR1 has way more power and weighs around the same.

Post the numbers of the race in question , analysis tells the tell . Pro Stock drag racing is probably the closet class of drag racing there is with numerous winners and races decided by 1000ths of second . Almost without fail , if a car loses that posts the the top speed or ET, it is hecause he got beat off the line. For the Honda to have the top speed advantage over the Ducati without having similar acceleration means that the Honda is more than likely creating more top end hp
and that I find hard to believe.
