Pedrosa to Yamaha

I keep hearing if Danny gets ______ ( insert excuse here ) he will win. He's the only rider I can recall that HRC ever built a custom bike for and still couldnt win. You can sell me on Dani deserving to be there because he's Marc's test mule but lets stop pretending he's still there based on his potential or results.

He has won 28 races in 10 completed seasons.

If there was a potential championship winner out there I doubt as you do that HRC would sign him as they want to keep Alzamora/MM happy, but I personally doubt there is a rider currently available who would win 3 races a year for them. Had MM been in contention late season 2015 Pedrosa was good enough to take points away from the Yamaha riders obviously.

Bearing in mind Marquez and Alzamora (his manager) are happy with being #1 in the team, what is your definition of not good enough?

I don't say that in a nasty way, I am simply curious. Pedrosa brings a lot more to Yamaha than on track results. He is a good team mate for Marquez, usually at the least podiums when Marquez doesn't, and is an experienced rider for development.

It's not just this season, I don't think his results have been good enough for a while. He seldom manages to keep up with the leading group. Four or five races a season?

The rest of the time, yes he brings home points but he's usually trailing the leading group by quite some distance, especially at the start of races.

I don't think he shows any real hunger, he rides around in his comfort zone, picking up points by attrition. When did he last put pressure on Rossi or Lorenzo? He's been at Honda for a long time now and he's been soundly beaten by his team mates pretty much every season.

He seldom takes points off the Yamaha guys even on the days where they're not at their best, which to my mind, means he's not even being an effective number 2.

Pedrosa is MotoGP's Eddie Irvine or Rubens Barrichello.

While his contribution has been valuable he's clearly not going to get any better at this stage of his career, so I didn't think it made sense to renew him. I think any number of the riders out there could do at least as good a job as he has been doing.

Time to bring in a younger, hungrier guy.

He was very competitive last season after recovering from his arm-pump surgery, and absolutely crucial in the 2015 championship outcome, beating Rossi in 4 of the last 5 races, and winning 2 of them . If there is somebody else other than Marquez out there who can win races against both Lorenzo and Rossi I am yet to hear of them. I agree he has been underwhelming thus far this year, but nobody not named Marc Marquez appears to be able to ride the 2016 bike.
