Poor Nicky still trying to adapt.

<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE (phleg @ Nov 26 2008, 09:58 AM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}><div class='quotemain'>Poor Nicky still trying to adapt.

For a track the Ducati struggles on I think being only .7 off Casey's best race lap from last year isn't too terrible for day 1.

Jerez has been completely re-asphalted and the riders say it has got the best surface of all tracks now.

Pedrosa 1st in these conditions is not a surprise at Jerez, as predictable as Rossi trailing him in 2nd position. Stoner was in the Ducati garage but obviously did not ride.

Lorenzo, then Edwards, two Yamahas, no surprise. Rossi was the only yamaha rider testing the 2009 M1, Lorenzo and Edwards had the 2008 model with all the modifications developed by Rossi and Burgess to adpat to the Bridgestones, like shorter swingarm different weight distribution etc.

The 'surprise' could be considered De Angelis, faster than Dovi, but then Dovi has to adapt to Bridgestones whereas De Angelis has had them for the whole season. We take notice anyway.

Elias faster on the Honda than on the Ducati, that figures. Toseland fast, that is not really a suprise. If he had done better than Edwards, it would have been.

Canepa faster than all other Ducati riders, but then he knows the bike, the tyres and the track, and he's a fast rider. Good to see Hayden immediately behind him--let us not forget that Hayden has been a Michelin rider until now. He's doing well lapping faster than Gibernau. The Ducati squad seems to have improved. Kallio, considering these are his very first experiences on a MotoGP, and on a Ducati of all bikes, is doing exceedingly well...

I agree,it makes sence that Hayden is way off Pedrosa and Lorenzo is the fastest on the 2008 Yamaha and so on.
I hope Hayden,Canepa and Kallio are able to do many laps tomorrow,to get used to Bridgestones above all.

I agree with this. I expected Dovi to adapt very quickly, but it is nice to see him fast so quickly.

I'm more impressed DeAngelis managed to lap quicker than Elias who is now on a factory Honda (if rumours are to be believed).

IT is testing. There is no way your going to see some rediculuous times being put down right now. THe only one doing decent times is fagdrosa cause he hasn't really changed much other than his updated machine. I also think he is out there trying to make a statement since he is a .... rider and can only really put down lap times. God knows when he gets in any type of battle he bends over like he usually does for his ...... manager anyway. So for Hayden give him time just like the rest of the field cause this test isn't .... other than just a test.

Agreed, give him about 2.5 seconds and he can start thinking about Dani again

Hmmm.....0.7 off Casey's best 2008 race lap is not good considering this is 2009 bike and 2009 pre-season.....the field is moving forward so Nicky has to adapt quickly or else he may end as another Melandri.....

Let's wait and see how he does tomorrow.....the worse thing that can happen to Nicky is he goes on winter break not sure if he can ride the beast ....so he will have to push and be top 8 tomorrow to set his mind on the right track for 2009....

Is Nicky on the carbon fibre framed bike? I'm not sure if Ducati have switched to the GP9 yet.

HOLY ....!

Trying to get some luck from that number, Dani?

That is just funny how pedrosa is more worried about his stinkin number and image than winning. Sure he can go fast but come on he just sucks the whole way around. As far as Nicky getting up to speed you will see very soon if he is going to get along with the bike or not. It is just still testing and nothing else so far.

I would suggest this comment is a little un-founded since Dani is one of very few riders who shows little to no concern about his image, and rides with the number of his finishing postion rather than clinging on to some "lucky" number and wasting time sticking silly stickers all over his bike.

snort

Anyways, Casey's comment about his post-surgery rehab I found funny too: <div class='quotetop'>QUOTE <div class='quotemain'>This is probably the longest period I´ve gone without riding a bike at all since I was three years old!

Surely all tests times cant really be compared to any previous times set there ?
We have no spec on tyres ? Surely this compound and construction of tyre is already designed to slow the riders down ?
Now you see most of you on here look at dani sporting the number 3 and think of Max when really, well in my opinion the number 3 belongs to the legendary Joey Dunlop !
Anyone agree ?

I'm surprised Honda allowed him to go ahead with the number seeing how anything other than the number 1 plate is viewed as losing face to Honda.

Why didn't he change from 26 to 5 after his 2006 season then

Oops - answered my own question 2 seconds after hitting add post - Edwards!
