Nicky Hayden looking for rear brake solution

Nicky Hayden is waiting for new footrest brackets to stop him inadvertently dragging the rear brake on Ducati’s stunning new carbon fibre GP9 machine.

The Kentucky rider should have the new footrest parts for the final winter test of 2009 in Jerez on March 28/29 with data showing his left foot is dragging on the rear brake.

“Sometimes mid-corner my foot is touching the rear brake and I’m not even meaning to do it. I need a different footpeg bracket to eliminate that because it is certainly a problem, “Hayden told MCN.

The new problem is not the first time Hayden has been troubled by rear brake issues.

Hayden’s dirt track background meant he spent a lot of time using the rear brake when he first arrived in MotoGP, and he used it so much that his Repsol Honda team used to fit a big rubber band on it to stop him putting so much pressure on the rear brake.

gonna need more than a few tenths, but I'm sure he'll take anything at this point. I have a feeling that Nick will come out in the last test even closer to the top of the charts....I hope!

i think we found a problem with nickys riding style!

using left footed braking would certainly cost you a few tenths...

How do you drag on the rear brake if you position the ball of your foot on the foot peg. I never drag the rear break on the road or track.

Do you really think the peg set-up on a multi-million dollar GP bike is
comparable to the one on your streetbike? GP bikes are much more
compact and everything is much closer together.

I was wondering the same thing. No wonder MCN get everything so wrong, they don't even know the basic geography of a motorcycle.

How come no other riders seem to have this problem then?

Who says they don't? It's not like we're informed of every single parts upgrade that every rider on the grid receives.

Not when it's online, can I suggest you buy the paper and try again.

..or as the dirt tracker would say..motorbikes have front brakes?

Nicky always runs a bigger rear disc doesn't he? Where most opt for 200mm, I thought Hayden stuck in a 250, as much a psychological throwback/'security blanket' from his dirt track days - almost reassurance. I remember Randy discussing his telemetry with Pete Benson which consistently indicated that he doesn't tend to rely on it it quite as much as his style would suggest, even during the the 990 era, which I find hard to believe.

Stoner uses his rear brake quite a bit as well since he was a dirt tracker also. Hayden even though he has about a week in total on the bike should be able to adapt.

They beat it out of him while he was at American Honda. When he jumped on the RC51 he was using loads of rear brake everywhere and they told him that when he went to GPs no one would let him hang huge brakes on the rear and he needed to learn to ride with less. Although I'm sure he showed up for Repsol Honda on day one using far more rear brake than anyone on the grid, it was considerably less than what he came into American Honda with.

Like you said, it's hard to believe that he doesn't use much rear brake based on how loose he is under braking.

Well,he is from Kentucky.Up in those hills, your lucky if your not born with a left foot growing out of your right ear. Just Kidding

Just like seeing different bikes on the grid i like to see different riding styles too. Remember the first time we saw McCoy
