I initially saw this on www.mcnews.com.au click on breaking news then go to 6 Feb 2007

After over 8 months in planning, pre-production and creating the eventual Pilot, MTV focus groups gave the go ahead to the new MotoGP series ‘The Kentucky Kid” . Production will commence immediately with an 8 part series planned to be aired late in the 2007 season. It is hoped that this new series will bring MotoGP to the mainstream within the USA.

The idea originally conceived by Anthony Gordon of Nothin But Shorts International and Phil Baker, Nicky’s Manager at International Racers in Irvine California has finally come to fruition. The pilot is said to be a first for MotoGP in the USA.

Looks like the Kentucky Kid is going mainstream. Does anyone have any thoughts?

MTV you say...

prepare for some topless hayden shots whooo hoooo!!

God bless america lol!

although i'm all for getting Moto GP the exposure it needs and deserves in the U.S..... i don't think i like this idea....i see it being just another DAM reality show....not about Moto GP

guess we'll have to see.... good on Nick though..he deserves more exposure here...plus he will triple the amount of tail he gets in the good old USA.

Good for MotoGP. These kinda programs are the key to increased popularity, seeing as most channels are reluctant to driectly promote MotoGP too much.

it's all good! anything that will expose our sport to the mindless nascar masses can only be a good thing.

100% agree with you...

BUT what i'm afraid of, is it being like lets saaaaaaaaaaaaaay....

The Ozzborns... i LOVE metal/rock whatever you want to call it..

How many times on that show have you seen Ozzy in concert?
All i'm saying is if the show is like that, i will be disapointed... it needs to center around Moto GP and Nicks life THERE...not at home with the rest of the sister fuckers and pig farmers..sure a bit of that is fine, but not all home life and just a mension that "OH HE RACES MOTORCYCLES"... you know what i mean?

MTV is the biggest piece of .... channel right now..

Have you seen the shows they have on there? My super sweet sixteen and all that crap?
If I were Nicky I wouldn't touch that channel with a ten-foot pole..
It's all a bunch of little spoiled punk-... teenies that watch that channel anyway..

I think at the end of the day it may or may not help Motogp, but it can scarcely hurt it.

MTV= Music TeleVision that hardly shows music anymore.

Whatever you think about MTV they do have a large amount of clout in pop culture. I am guardedly optimistic.

I'd only be able to watch if it All takes place at the track or on the road. I think it would be cool to see the training, diet, managing time, hanging with his brothers etc...

Some members have been called "Spinster", MTV will show you how to do it. Denver had the "Real World" for a few months, and people that met the cast said all the drama was instigated by the film crew. This could hurt Hayden/motogp!

Tell us what you really think about MTV.

I agree with you though. I hope they don't F it up.

good coverage for motogp ... if they actually promote it. what exactly is gonna be in the show?

Haydos is most definatley going mainstream

Dorna is also rumoured to be invovled in the project.

ya but to bad USA just try to see how much money they can make like things like "formula Drift" in USA. Coporation in USA always try to take it over the top only thing that not good. but even tho I hate hayden Im sure I will watch it haha

sorry hard for me to explain in english but I read this and this is what I really ment on a news website

"There's good publicity and bad publicity, and this one will fall into the later in no amount of time at the hands of the MTV crew. You can almost see this spun as a Biker Boyz/Torque remake, USA vs the world. Once the contract is signed, the Hayden's will discover that they have to put out X amount of wheelies, Y amount of stoppies, and Z amount of burnouts. We alreaady have an example with SpeedTV and their Superbikes! show. Of all their episodes, only one was spent on the road racing scene, the rest was on hooligan riding. Remember, this is coming from a network dedicated to the promotion of motorsports racing, you can imagine what a teeny bopper network will do with it."

I can certainly see your skepticism here but here is my thoughts on that. Nicky isn't braindead from two decades of alcohol and drug abuse (no offense any Ozzy fans). Outside the track there isn't any drama for him, he's a relatively humble guy and very focused at the track. Tommy, Roger, Rose and the sisters don't make it to many races and Sqiurrel is relatively normal so there really isn't the crazy family angle. MTV HAS to rely on racing drama, there isn't any else in Hayden's life.

This is definitely a concern but I don't think it'll be a problem. It's not as if the film crew could instigate a fight between Hayden and say, Pete Benson or Squirrel. Nicky has a pretty good relationship with his team and no film crew is going to shake that. I could see MTV trying to spin something of a Nicky vs. Pedrosa feud or something but I don't think HRC are going to allow anything serious as far as filming in the garage. As bad as MTV are with reality television and conflict creation, I think they may have their hands tied as far as creating friction in the Honda garage or even the entire paddock. I'd be surprised if any other team allows the cameras near their team, truck or riders but if what Katt said is true about Dorna being involved, MTV might be able to work something in their favor.

Defintely another worrisome issue, especially considering this is MTV. But I think it will be alright. MTV isn't airing this to show fans Nicky going fast or doing tricks, they're hoping the life of a MotoGP rider is as exciting as the racing is and that the off-track rivalries are as fierce as they are on-track. Nicky might do an extra wheelie each session so the cameras have something to shoot for a commercial but nothing too crazy. Certainly no more than Valentino's wheelie parades (don't take that the wrong way guys, I enjoy watching). When it comes down to it, HRC own Hayden, not MTV. If MTV starts complaining about Hayden being too dull on the track the message will come down from someone, be it Hayden, Benson or HRC themselves and it will be as simple as this: "Get stuffed."

hayden's no ..... and he wont let himself in for anything thats gonna have a negative affect on his riding. So i am not too worried in that respect. If its crap, i wont watch it, if its good i will.

Thats if it gets aired in the UK, does anyone know?

i expect it's going to be like an american emmerdale farm show
<

mtv is .... but im still waiting for them to come and "pimp my ride"

If it's an 8 part series they won't be following the whole racing season. Most likely is that they will start filming when he returns home from the German GP, & all during the U.S GP weekend. After that there's a massive gap before Brno, which is also perfect for filming. So essentially they would only have to be in the way for one race.
