MotoGP rejects RNF's entry for 2024 over "repeated infractions and breaches"

Big news!

A statement said: “The MotoGP Selection Committee, comprising members of FIM, IRTA and Dorna Sports, have decided not to select the CryptoDATA RNF MotoGP Team for the 2024 season.

“Repeated infractions and breaches of the Participation Agreement affecting the public image of MotoGP have obliged this decision.

“The Selection Committee will be reviewing applications for a new Independent Team, using Aprilia machinery, to join the MotoGP class grid for 2024.”

So, after not allowing KTM to enter 2 new bikes that would have had factory backing, they are dealing with this .... show. As it stands, they'd be down to 20 bikes and Oliveira and Fernandez are without a ride.

What is the bet that KTM buy the team in some form, run Aprilias for 2024 then turn it into Husqvarna for 2025?

I actually just finished listening to a podcast 5 mins ago and they were talking about this. Aparantly, one of the main sponsors, Cryptodata wants to take over the team. I did have the pod on in the background while I'm working, so there might be some more to it...

I completely mis-remembered what they said 😁

It's the NASCAR team that wants to take over the team
Correct, Trackhouse Racing.

NASCAR squad Trackhouse set to become Aprilia MotoGP satellite team in 2024

The good news is this looks like this will be more a Pramac/Ducati style relation ship, with at least 1 rider getting a 2024 bike next yr, with both bikes being current factory spec from 2025.

The one thing that interested me though was this statement:

The Trackhouse project was due to be coming to the grid in 2025, but has now been accelerated because of the RNF issues – hence why there can be no commitment to two factory bikes next season.
Was it always the intention for RNF to be taken over from 2025, or were they talking about 2 news slots for Trackhouse racing? If so, that is completely contradictory to what Dorna were stating in the summer that 'only a new factory team' would get the slots vacated by Suzuki. I'm reading the above statement as the latter, which is a huge slap in the face of KTM.

Razlan doesn't have the best reputation in the paddock, but he's been around for a long time, and he knows how to keep the bills paid (barely), and stay alive for another season of racing. While his business operations surely changed when CryptoDATA were brought onboard as majority owners in RNF, I doubt Razlan forgot how to keep Dorna paid, though it is possible that he and CryptoDATA had a misunderstanding about where the payments to Dorna would be coming from.

Based upon the interview with Razgali, it sounds like everyone wants to walk away from RNF, and leave it to the new owners. Seems strange since the team is entitled to money from Dorna for running a team, but I guess the payments to own the grid slot are still a long way from being paid.

Glad an America racing team is finding its way onto the grid. Unfortunately, it's coming at the expense of a team from Southeast Asia. Dorna still has a lot of work ahead to build a resilient paddock.

Trackhouse?! Really?!?
I was already surprised when they bought the entirety of Chip Ganassi Racing's NASCAR operations but that takes it to a whole new level.

Trackhouse is an interesting operation.

They ran the Camaro NASCAR at Lemans. And the car was way faster than anyone expected.

They also made a special entry into the Chicago street race. They ran the Australian v8 super car driver and won it.

It could have been a collaboration or something, as it doesn't sound like Razlan wants to get out of the paddock. But it's also probably a slap in the face of KTM. It appears that they are not... "favoured".... by Dorna
