The fire at COTA was in the Tech 3 Moto GP garage of Cal Crutchlow and Bradley Smith, caused by a faulty starter battery. Fortunately the sprinkler system went off and while there was some damage to some computer equipment, there was apparently no damage to any bikes. Herve Poncharal, team manager, said that the fire would not effect the team's race this weekend. The sprinkler system was also triggered in the Team Yamaha, LCR Honda and  Cardion AB garages, but aside from lots of water, no damage to these teams either.

Yup...

“The first impression we had when we arrived was really bad but fortunately it doesn't look as bad as we initially thought,” said team principal Massimo Meregalli. “We will now have to disassemble the bikes and dry them, clean them and rebuild them again. For sure it could have been a lot worse. <span style="font-size:14px;“We don't know the cause yet but it is possible the fire started in a battery of an electric motorcycle engine starter inside the Tech 3 garage. The emergency automatic fire system was activated and as a result we have water and white fire retardant powder everywhere. Most importantly no one was injured in this incident.
<div style="font-size:14px;
<div style="font-size:14px;“The fire started around 1am and we were informed by IRTA at 6am. We are now in the process of cleaning everything. We have to say a big thank you to the circuit staff who are putting in a lot of effort to be of help.”
<div style="font-size:14px;
<div style="font-size:14px;The sprinkler system in the LCR Honda and Cardion AB pits was also activated, leaving them to face a similar clean-up ahead of Friday's opening practice for the inaugural Texas MotoGP.

How much you wanna bet there will be a new rule in place by tonight. No unattended charging systems. Makes you wonder what would have been procedure had say the factory Yamaha's  been burnt to a crisp and unable to compete.

Fook £6.60 for a beer thats 3x More than my local and Rossi Garage sabotage  arghhh

I live in Florida which is brutally hot and humid almost year round. If you go anywhere outside that requires you to pay admission, you will rarely find a water fountain and They will charge you up the ... for water.

In 2006 when I went to Laguna it was one of their hottest heat waves on record. I'm used to the heat but that was so hot it was kicking my .... Everyone was dehydrating. Laguna could have jacked their prices and made a mint. Instead they bought hundreds of cases of water and gave it away. They were more concerned with the well being of their guests then making a profit

It's only brutally hot June to Sept, and that's depending where you are.  Most of the year, it's freakin perfect

The Laguna Seca folks are seriously fantastic people. Love 'em.

They understand their market and "get" how to keep 'em coming back year after year.

When I went to warped tour in Virginia a few years back, it was 100+ and sunny as all hell. I knew I was going to need a ton of water, so I bought a liter bottle at a convenience store before I went in, and continuously refilled it using the bathroom sink. ....... scumbags want $50 for an ounce of water. I might be exaggerating but seriously .... that noise. Rule #1 when going to a big event: bring a backup plan for food and drinks. If you have to shove a 12 pack up your ... so be it.

Who the .... drinks water on race weekend?

People who might actually want to be alive long enough to enjoy the race in that kind of heat? ;)

That fire sounds nasty, good job the sprinkler system worked and good to know no bikes were affected by it as well. Not the best start to a race build up though is it?

Unpaved Lot F, the huge cash lot, is too muddy for use after yesterday's short rains. Traffic is being diverted to other lots higher up.

Please keep in mind that most of us aren't as practiced at assuming the position.

Even the local minor league baseball outfit gets $8 for a plastic cup of ....... Bud or Coors. That and the idiotic 'no cooler' rules are one of the prime reasons I don't attend more than a few stick/ball games per year.   I don't mind paying for entertainment or items of real value, but I do resent being treated as a walking wallet, to be sucked dry.

I though 3 quid 50 for a beer at Twickenham was a ....... ripoff. Damn! $4 for a water???
