MotoGP Austin

Texas, do you know when the track will open for the public? I plan on getting there as soon as its open to beat the traffic as I have a friend dropping me off at the track each day. Of course I have to impose on my friend for that because COTA isn't shelling out for any transportation to the track like they did for Formula 1 and an out of towner like me refuses to pay an extra $200 to $300 dollars over the weekend just to take a taxi or rent a car to get to and from the venue which is out in the middle of nowhere with no public transportation there.

So is it final, there will be no public transportation to the track?  If so, this is a bit of a problem.  Which means I now have to shell out for parking.  I had already rented a car, but I really didn't want to drive to the track.  Its a good thing I'm going with a .... load of friends to make this an epic weekend, COTA doesn't seem to give two ..... about motofans now that they got their race.

maybe you fellas should look into sharing a limo. i'm picturing a yellow stretch hummer. Jumkie hanging out of the sunroof.

I believe it was 8am for F1 & Grand Am. Not sure about Moto.

ETA: just found it. 730am.

I have to admit I haven't heard either way about Trans options for this race. When I know I'll let you know. But there are alternatives to COTA's high-priced parking nearby within as short of a walk as their lots.

Is this for MotoGP, or is it just general info for the track. There was no shuttle operation for Grand Am, so they're not doing them for every race. There may be one for Moto, but I doubt it will take on the same scale as for F1.

Nope. No shuttle. $30 cash parking. No in/out privileges.

If you like your limo or car nice & clean, don't park in lot F. It'll be white with limestone dust after the race.

No shuttle, $1,200.00 for a VIP pass. and $30.00 every time you park the car and very little shade anywhere on the track. Not only is it user-unfriendly, and anti-Schawantz but unreasonably expensive. Think I'll pass and go to Laguna.

That was on the MotoGP 'faq' link, but it looks like you have found more pertinent info.

What about Austin transit? Any bus companies there that you can check with?

Change your car rental to a minibus,

I for one will contribute to the cost's ;)

wow. this is surprising. They had the F1 transportation running like a clock.  Do they not understand how big motogp is?  don't they see the numbers?  The Grand Am had under 20k so i understand no shuttle, but I think they're expecting over 60k for motogp.

I don't think the COTA folks and the local politicians know anything about motorsports except they hear that F1 is the most prestigious and they want to hang out in the VIP section and present the trophy to the F1 drivers to feed their ego. And they could give a .... about any other racing event.

They went to credible extremes to make sure that the first f1 race wasn't a complete clusterfuck because there we so many people hoping it would be.  Those people might get their wish. I hope not tho.

I'm not been funny here but I thought you Americans did things bigger and better than the rest of us!

One of the reasons I'm travelling out of europe for the first time.

Am I missing something or is it like the circuit want the money.

But no encouragement for the fans to attend.

WTF is going on here people!? :O

I got my info regarding no shuttles directly from COTA about 2 weeks ago in direct email contact from them. Their only solution as "to hire a cab." Then I contacted Austin's public transportation service and they also confirmed that they wouldn't be providing anything either. People, for those that haven't been to the track or are not familiar with the Austin area, the track is out in the middle of nowhere below the airport and the area is not served by regular Austin bus service. So expect to pay for either a cab or car rental and if you rent a car, make sure you buy those parking passes. I'm wondering if any of the ranch property owners around the track will try to sell private parking-but then how would you know until you're there and by then it'll be too late if none do. Do a satellite street view of the area on Google to see how isolated it is. If this is how COTA intends to run their track, this will be the last time they see me. I have Laguna Seca and I don't need COTA.

This is probably what they are expecting:
