Motogp Austin 2016 - Meet up

i love turn 15. last year i did the VIP ...., which was ....... awesome.
What does that include? Heard you can buy passes to watch from different places during the 3 days too. Will make calls tomorrow until I can actually talk to a human and find out what the ticket options are. No chemo until next month, so will be able to attend:D. My daughter (UT Austin) wants to go to the race with me, so VIP might not be possible for 2. And a waste since she would only attend the race. The good news is I will stay in her appt, so no hotel gouging this time. I really want paddock passes, so hope they're still available. Had my doc appt yesterday, so couldn't do anything before.

How about public transportation to the track? It wasn't available with MotoGP in the past. Hope that changed this year. Will drive there, but prefer not having to use my car for the track. Thank you folks.

as far as I know there is not a shuttle to the track, I got a parking pass with my paddock passes. Uber might be an option too, unless someone wants to pitch in for limo service (did that 2 years ago for F1)

Noob here... :hi:

We (my husband and I) will be in Austin next week for the races. Super excited!

Any tips from experienced COTA/MotoGP attendees?

CoTA are selling paddock passes, if they are still available, get one.
Assigned seating in Austin is not necessary, plenty of free seating.

AF1 party on Friday evening is a must attend

Firstly enjoy it.
Secondly don't waste your money taking food and drinks to the track.
They take it off you as you enter except a bottle of unopened water.
Or that's how it was its first year.
If it has changed last year at all someone please jump in, I don't want to look an ......
Yeah yeah I know too late.
Oh yeah if you know anyone with a paddock pass, They don't get searched I know this for a fact as I had one when I was out there ;)

True. Also, wasn't there another thread we had started and talked about Austin? I seem to remember one. Or was it us just talking in other threads about Austin?

Anyway, yeah go around watching from different turns during practices, then I recommend turn 1 for race, on the grassy knoll.

Obviously be sure to go up the tower, $25. If you really like racing, watch the Red Bull Rookie cup, they were there last time I went to Austin, check to see if they're going this year. The party in downtown is great.

wear some good shoes, you will probably log a few miles each day. down town seems to be where so much is happening in austin, lots of restaurants, bars, hotels, and plenty of live music.

so has anyone decided when and where everyone wants to meet up?

We didn't get paddock passes, after reading thru the thread though I'm kind of wishing we did. They are sold out on the COTA website. It's ok, there's always the next time...
We have 3-day passes, seats at turn 15. We are definitely planning to walk around and check everything out.
We aren't planning to rent a car so I'm kind of worried about transportation to the track.
I'm hoping for autographs!

If you're staying downtown (I'm talking walking distance), the drive to the track is considerable. If you not staying downtown but are far from the track, consider you'll need transportation 4 times per day (minimum) track and back, downtown and back. It may be cheaper to rent a car assuming the prices are reasonable. There is an upside to uber/lift, no hassle with parking. Find out what a typical fare is from your hotel to the track. U can do that quickly on Google.

Hey guys.
A few recommendations for meetup spots.

Shangri la- east 6th st bar. With food trailer.
Liberty bar- east 6th st bar. With food trailer.
These two have huge outdoor patios.

Blackheart bar - on Rainey street. Lots of bars on this street
Near the downtown convention center. Good food on Rainey st too

Hit the Lost Well bar too- Biker Dive bar - motorcycle racing takes precedence over every other sport at the Lost Well. Including nfl football. This is where we watch Motogp on the big screen.
