Keep me posted on that one Roger!

Im a big stroker fan too, I nearly bought one about 15 years ago, but they are no use 2 up, and my ex wife liked riding pillion, In fact me and one of my brothers were gonna buy a pair, but it was the pillion thing that knocked it on the head. But now...the XT can do the 2 up work and the stroker could be for sunny day fun....

Strokers aren't really a practical idea here, government's all but outlawed 'em. Anyway, on the subject of my 'tard, It looks like the costs of university are going to get in the way, so it's all been delayed to late this year/early next year. I saw a nice TT600 Yammie the other day, I'm thinking of adding it to the list of potentials, along with the XR400 (That one's an ugly bugger, though). Anyone know what the TT600s are like?

Yeah, bad ... lawnmowers. We'll tear up the streets with our shot-glass pistons and pissy blue smoke. They might make good racers, but the testosterone-defecient whine of a two stroke will never match the gut wrenching roar of a four stroke. When you gonna embrace the future (and some manhood), Fatboy?

The tt has the same engine as my XT, in a lighter chassis. To be honest, I dont think the power would be mad enough for a motard. Ive got a devil pipe on mine which gives it more go than standard, but for supermoto looning, I would say my old suzuki DR600 was more suitable. Much nastier throttle response with its accelerator pumped carb as oposed to the Yams more civilised 2 carb set up. Which makes for a lot of fun and wheelies!

What about an XR650R? they are evidently nuts!

You can go the KTM or Husky route, but I'm more comfortable with JAp engineering myself. More time riding, less time spannering.

Oh come on, have you never ridden an old Maico or a hideously tuned Rd, TZR or RG Gamma?????

When they hit the powerband, the hairs on your neck go up and the clocks smack you in the face.........I'm off to ebay to look for a TDR, or maybe a CR500 supermoto...

Smelly 2 strokes rock!!!!

cr500's the baby pete. richo dont like hondas so an xr650 is out, pitty cos they make very good motards

Thanks for the info, Pete. Might have to steer clear of the TT600s now. There's plently of alternatives, after all.

Jeez, we got some stroker lovers on this site, don't we? I admit, they're good for race bikes, so we should chain the filthy blue-smoke spitting mongrels up so they can't escape the racetracks and spread their dirty, fast-wearing heresy on our roads. Sure the things might be loony to ride (Hop on a Today 50, we'll have a high octane party!) but they ain't as cool as a four stroke, with their ball-less fart exhast sounds, and all the ugly .... like expansion chamibers, flat heads and the like. Four strokes look and sound so much more horn, with ground shaking, beutiful looking pipes, and all the extra .... like a real head, not a metal cork for the top of the cylinder. Even if they can't outpace them on the track, Four strokes are cooler.

And, Rog, stop having fantasies about my manhood, it creeps me out knowing fat internet freaks is thinking about my genetals.

I have a Moto, an ex race Honda XR600R, which has had the suspension sorted with stiffer spring, rake adjusted and everything re-valved, no keys, indicators, or mirrors
<

AWESOME FUN!!!!!!!!!!

There are downsides, but the fun thru the twisties, and passing sportsbikes with ur pegs down and still more to go, makes up for them!

Yep, I'm gonna have to get a moto at some point, the 2 stroke addict in me still says blue TDR, and the diesel side says Gilera Nordwest......I nearly bought a set of moto wheels for my old DR600, that woulda been fun, the Tenere is too bulky for a motard, so that means I need to buy another bike!

BTW Roger, glad you enjoyed this months Mechanics mate, did the 125 Elsie make you wanna drink cider and ride like a total ....???? It did with me!

Pete

"Yep, I'm gonna have to get a moto at some point"

DO IT, although the XR gets a slagging, i tell u what, its more fun than my 156bhp triumph speed triple T509 - which is now a race bike........ the great thing about this xr, it has grunt everywhere till flat out, which is around the 115mph range, not bad for an old un!

Does anyone remember an article on supermotos in Paris about 14 years ago in bike magazine? Among the usual suspects was a DR BIG with an RG500 Gamma engine.......How much fun does that sound?

Sounds fun, but i think motoing is all about the torque, the low down grunt, the pull trees power down low, that's what i like about it, im not bothered about 150mphj, give me the pointy, never back off feel of a big single moto any day over the 2 stroke zing, or the four stroke boredom, only thing that matches it are twins and triples imho........

Yep saw the kettles, how mad is the chromed up one!!!!! and last month they had a 350 Elsie with an H1 or H2 engine!

I didnt own an Rd 125, I had a Yamaha TY but a mate had a red one, tuned to the point of stupidity! Had some great laughs on that. The Gamma's were amazing, had a lot of fun on a Mk3 250 in my late teens....owned another for about a day a few years later, but took it back to the shop and offered to shove it where the sun dont shine. Must have been bad, I took my old z250 twin back!

one thing i didnt realise before i read that mag was it was that .... ken clarks fault that i was confined to a 125 when half my mates were on 250s because he changed the law just before my birthday. i hate that prick even more now, but god bless yamaha for bringing out a 125 that was legal and kicked the ... out of the 250 dreams my mates were riding. :lol:do ypou remember the x5 and x7 pete
