You ....

'Cockplod', drive along Highway 10 and look south across the arid landscape, where all colour has seemingly been leached by the midday sun. Think of the desperate people to the South, who risk all to traverse this hostile expanse in exchange for the American dream. Like the native Indians who were herded on to the reservations, the Mexicans once belonged on this land, but were forced out- excluded from the vision. We tend to perceive them as an overtly Hispanic culture, but despite the Spanish in breeding, what is a Mexican if not a first nation American, defined as a Mexican by proxy by a 200 year old frontier agreement..

Southern Californians rely upon their cheap labour but spend millions to keep them at bay. Politicians are no longer sitting on the fence about illegal immigration. Over the last two years, with elections looming, they were busy spending huge sums building new ones to stem the flow of an estimated 500,000 undocumented workers from Mexico each year. Federal funding of $30 million has just been allocated for completion of a third fence, running in parallel with two barriers set up around San Diego over the last few decades.. A congressional plan to spend a further 2.2 billion, extending a double fence fortification 800 miles east is likely to be approved soon. The irony being, that these are precisely the type of low wage construction projects that America usually gets the Mexicans to do. Indeed the Golden State Fence Co. the self branded top fence contractor in California was recently caught for the second time in as many years employing illegal aliens. Federal investigators have discovered that .... loads of its employees almost a third of its payroll, were undocumented workers. Astonishingly some of these had been caught in a similar sweep 18 months prior to this. In short, illegal immigrants are being employed to build barriers to keep out other illegal workers. The immigration debate in America is not just about whether to double – or even double fence borders, but about double standards. In the South West, middle aged vigilantes in combat gear – so called minutemen – are driving around the desert like extras form a Mad Max movie to deter what white neo-con America sees as drug crazed terrorist infiltrated hordes of Mexicans, who are really just desperate people trying to escape the poverty and depravation of their homeland in exchange for their share of the lavish American dream.

Take the drive up towards Palm Springs 'mockdog'- The paradox is, that everything that stretches before you in The Coachella valley, everything –the malls, the pools, the hotels, the leisure clubs, the huge annual pop and rock festival, even hypothetically an international race circuit capable of staging Moto GP one day; -this entire sunshine society, is kept going by illegal workers. The Mexicans do the jobs that many Americans spurn – the cleaning, the waste disposal, the fruit picking, the fast food outlets, and law enforcement agencies at every level connive in or conveniently ignore this fact. Far from trying to mend the holes in the system –it is in fact working very well for business, providing an almost infinite risk free supply of low cost flexible and non-unionised labour. Neither this drive towards impregnating the borders, nor six-fold increase in border guard has reduced the 11 million undocumented workers.

So 'rock-head' they keep coming – breaching the fences, and beating the patrolmen, subsequently charting a hazardous course over the mountains and deserts I urge you to gaze upon. Last year 465 died of cold hunger or heat –or they were shot. Your man Bush wanted to do something, not just because he is a Texan, (which has had a long co-habitation history with Mexican), but because he had the vested interest of tapping into the vast Latino voting pool. But his guest worker programme granting immigrants a temporary right to work had little chance of inauguration before the mid term congressional elections in the fall of 2006. The Mexican fruit and flower pickers that sleep rough in disused irrigation channels and dry creeks around The Salton Sea, and cram into rented rooms all over California, together with a score of work mates reminiscent of the ‘Okies’ in Steinbeck’s Grapes Of Wrath, are annually cleared out by the City and County authorities that preside over this land. Who does this dirty deed? – the City employs them to do it of course. They are paid to throw themselves off the land – nobody else is willing to do it!

I have encountered countless Americans Repubs like you, who loath the Mexican influx, whilst being perfectly happy to exploit or benefit from the services they provide either knowingly, or unwittingly. They speak of their damaging counter culture, and resistance to the American way, yet California for example is by its very nature Latino in essence, that is one of its chief draws and identifying facets. In England we have endured a decade of unregulated immigration under New Labour, and certainly there is a case to be argued for the detrimental effects associated with the visible erosion of the core traditions and heritage of the nation in the name of multiculturalism. But South West Americans can hardly state such a claim, where in the absence of a cultural pedigree of their own, the pervading customs are invariably of Hispanic derivation.

Your mindless generalisation has now got you furiously back peddling, as you have before - you're denying the fact that you are a bigot, but you wouldn't have to if your neanderthal rhetoric didn't speak for itself. We know what you meant, your intent, and your contempt. How cool would that be to have one on both coasts and in the middle of the us as well? Then anyone is for the most part in some decent driving distance and could make an event. Instead of going eleswhere in europe or otherwise go to the larget motorcycle market and grow the sport. Plus The east coast has more population then really anywhere else. Sheeet just think about NY and Jersey and PA with all those cities and suburbs that have riders all over. I would bet if they had a race there or close to it, it would sell very very well.

<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE (ptk50 @ Mar 13 2009, 01:55 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}><div class='quotemain'>well maybe to get this back to Moto-GP racing - as much as I would like to see Rossi on a Ducati - that would give us Moto-GP 1 (Rossi trying to beat his own best times) & Moto-GP 2 (the rest, competing for Podium 2, 3 and then to keep some interest 4 & 5)

BTW - I believe Moto-GP should be restricted to those countries with a heritage of Bike racing - nothing to do with racism just mechanical culture
Honestly I really wished that we could have this sport and just recreational motorcycling in the regions of the world where they are opressed or opressive. It might generate some fun and get people closer. Just think if the taliban had a bunch ofMX bikes and found a cool jump somewhere. Now I don't know about you but if I were a kid and I saw that the first thing I would do is drop the gun and hop on that ride and forget the world. WHat if they all got Harleys and started a gang fiding from oasis to oasis. I guess it would have to be harleys with knobby tires.
