Disagree in the strongest terms. This narrative is overmuch reminiscent of we were hearing after Nicky won in 2006. Nobody "lucks" into the kind of battles he had last year with Marquez. Certainly didn't see any other riders making record numbers of passes against arguably the best rider in 20 years. Dovi, it's possible, had a team then that was more responsive to his requirements, something that it appears has gone away as Lorenzo made more progress. Who can watch his duel in the rain and absolutely impossible passes he made, and call that luck? It's possible he peaked last year, but I say his accomplishments are solid and can't now be retroactively discounted.

He only won that duel at Motegi because Marquez's foot slipped off the peg. He wasn't going to win the race till that happened; luck. His fortunes only rose when the tire switch happened. He's done .... all since winning at Qatar. If he was that good, he'd be mounting another title challenge instead of bringing up the rear of the front running bikes.

Respectfully - using that logic then, Marquez's losing of any race would only be due to luck. The skills both riders have are what puts them at the forefront of any given race. Motegi was one of the most awesome demonstrations of racing in the rain anyone's ever seen. One could btw counter by saying Dovi only won because his foot didn't slip of the peg, and that's a matter of skill, not luck. Even if Marquez hadn't slipped and went on to win the race by a couple thousandths, Dovizioso's 2nd place would still be considered a legendary piece of riding. And Dovi had multiple battles with MM last year. It's not as if it was a one-off. Only the best have prolonged battles with the very best. They were very evenly matched, up until when Marquez upped his game and he didn't just do it at will like he's been doing this year. It was a good fight making for a very memorable season. If anyone was lucky, it was the fans who witnessed those races.

I see close parallels with Nicky, although Nicky sealed the deal by being absolutely consistent which Dovi couldn’t manage, you can’t have results such as Dovi had at PI 2017 and win the title. It doesn’t matter what Nicky did afterwards or even whether the 800 cc class could almost have been specifically designed to stymie him, he did what he did that year and was a worthy title winner, like Leicester in their English premier league title year.
I agree no one can take away those races in which he out dueled MM, and as I said on previous post I don’t think riders who beat prime MM in last lap/last corner battles are going to be able to form a large club.
If this outburst was unprovoked Lorenzo has it over him in spades as far as careers go however, having had rather more good years than one.

Long time no poststill been reading on occasion though!
Unusual results today, both sessions a little mixed from what I expected especially FP2, be interesting to see how it progresses over the Saturday sessions...
Guys on BTSport said MM only used 2 sets of tyres today, never sure they know what they're talking about but seems likely given the results... Another smart start to the weekend, look forward to seeing how it works out with when he turns the screws tomorrow...
Post session inverview with Vinales was quite odd, normally he has a face on when he is unhappy, today was a big smiles while complaining about the bike, can't remember last time I saw that from him!
Really hoping Bautista can put together another solid weekend 2 top 6s on the bounce will do him good with RB Ring coming up next!
Marc used 1 set of hards the entire FP 2 according to analysis doing 18 laps with 13 at speed.

Marquez put a new hard tyre in and immidiately went top by half a second or so. He's then reeled another 3 laps in the mid 1.56 which no one has been capable of so far.

Haven't logged on in some time but will often check in and have a read to keep up to date with the latest news, conspiracies and forum catfights. I can see the Uccio posts have been pretty thin in my absence... disapointing.
What a great Q2 session, looking forward to the race. As for my predictions... well no real guess work needed for this one, its a foregone conclusion. Abraham, Redding & Smith will fill the top positions for best Amish style goatee, feeling the most hard done by and doing the most realistic impersonation of a chemotherapy patient.
Great do or die laps from Dovi and Rossi but my money is on Marc for the race. Bloody hard to beat a guy that can over ride the bike for pretty much full race distance and can save 7 out of every 10 crashes. The Ducati's could be in with a chance if they dont destroy the rear but id be shocked to see the Yamanah do anything better than a podium.

Again though the complete .... up with the tyres is mentioned. Rossi couldn't get a fast lap in with his first soft so pulled and changed to another soft and immidiatly went faster. I know the article isn't about that but how does that so easily get brushed aside now?
What happens when, and it has happened one of the guys has a dud tyre for the race? It could be the difference between taking a championship or not in the future.
