Do you reckon McLaren have made the correct decision to replace their 2nd driver Juan Pablo Montoya with their test driver since 2003 Pedro De La Rosa? Pedro is a good driver alright but Montoya is still better. We'll see this weekend if McLaren are going to regret what they've done and I really do think that they will.

I don't think they will give it a second thought. JPM didn't do much this season...is the new guy going to be worse? Probably not.

Well probably Montoya is a better driver in terms of pure talent, but the question is that talent being useful for the team?

So far he got 26 points in 10 races, that's 2.6 points per race, I think considering the level of performance of McLaren, 2'6 points per race is quite poor and I think De la Rosa can do better than that, maybe he won't be the next Schumi but I think he is a pretty reliable guy and will get the points McLaren need.

Did they have a choice in the matter? A lot of teams in a lot of motorsport disciplines revert to using thier test guy in situations like this. And sometimes it works really well, like Kawasaki in Shanghai last year.

Who will be the third driver now that Pedro has moved up to a race seat?

McLaren has another test driver, Gary Paffet (UK) he won the DTM last year IIRC.
Also Lewis Hamilton (UK) is contracted to McLaren and will start testing with the team as soon as he finishes his GP2 campaign.

Rumours say that next year Hamilton will drive the 2nd Macca, though it's just a rumour.

I think if De la Rosa does a good job he will stay in Macca and Hamilton will be leased to a midfield team.

they should give hamilton the chance if he gets enough miles under his belt to qualify for the super licence. the guy is doing very well in GP2

I say it is a good move for the team. Knowing Montoya's personality i could easily see him screwing around, causing problems if he were to finish out the season..besides F1 doesn't need someone who thinks going to nascar is a good thing! Adios Juan!

De La Rossa did okay, and took 7th at the French GP yesterday 2 places behind Kimi.

7th position in his first race for a while is very good considering he's only 1 place behind Renault 2nd-driver Giancarlo Fisichella, + he has loads of pressure piled on him to do well in his first race which I think he did.
