Marc Marquez and Casey Stoner are lined up on the same grid... Who do you think would win and why?

I'm going for Marc. He has been impeccable this year. I think his youth and skill would win. He is a little Rossi, who is not against a sneaky move and has the talent to pull them off. Whilst Stoner is obviously an incredibly talented rider ~ to be able to tame that Duc showed that. But, I just think being a father is in his subconscious now and I think Marc would have the edge on him.

Marc Marquez no doubt. Don't get me wrong, what Casey Stoner achieved on the Duc was nothing short of genius and the way he rode was just spectacular. Problem is Marc Marquez is just as amazing but with the benefit of loving a good old fight, he relishes and thrives in it. Casey Stoner on the other hand, always got flustered when pushed. Marquez has no weaknesses, the same cannot be said of Stoner. I think if Stoner was on the Honda next season, Marquez would fight with him, once or twice and then Stoner would break... back to his Adrianas loving arms... ;)

speed-wise I think they're equal, maybe giving Stoner a slight edge. as far as adaptability to contemporary electronics in the Honda goes, I think MM might beat him if both were on 2014 bikes. as far as handling PR, media, etc. is concerned, the winner is more easy to pick.

MM without question....

MM is more mentally prepared to fight and enjoys racing....Casey could fight but it became clearer and clearer he didnt enjoy racing toward the end of his career....

Reminds me of MotoGP Laguna from last year. The shortest way around a corner is straight through it... Marquez overtaking Rossi at Laguna Seca.

I believe his strongest point is not getting frustrated easily, while this was Casey's biggest weakness, at least in the latter part of his career.

Thank you duc ~ Love that! Which is why I say Marc is a little Rossi because that's exactly what Rossi did to Stoner at Laguna in 2008 (same corner?). Then Stoner dropped it ~ under pressure (agree with fellow posters). I don't think Marc would do that. Would be exciting to see them both on the grid thou.

Marquez for sure. Doubt Marquez would beat him at Phillip Island, but other than that the kid has everyone covered. Wonder if he could tame the Duc though?

The Casey of before not the retired fisherman now, across a championship it would be tight, but i will pick Stoner. even if just to disagree with all of you

It depends on the equipment. On a modern 1000 then Marquez. No doubt. However, Stoner was the unsurpassed master of 800cc GP motorcycle racing. So on an 800 - Stoner.

If Dorna wants someone on the grid who can beat Marquez I think Stoner is the only option. Baring injury I would not be surprised if Marquez did a clean sweep of all the races. Must be hard on Lorenzo waking up to the realisation he needs the a bike advantage to win. He is a broken man now.

Stoner could beat Marquez in races but Marquez would win the championship.

Yeah I'd go for the 93 over a season for sure, I think he is marginally the faster rider maybe arround 1/10th on average over Casey maybe a bit less. But has far greater mental strength and like others have said, he will fight for everything every lap with anyone and mostly come out ok.
Seem to remember Lorenzo saying the only person faster than Marc was Casey but only at PI, and that Casey would give up on a battle or closing a gap and MM never does, which is probably accurate.

Basing on a hypothetical battle, with them both being 21, both on Repsol Hondas, both hungry and early in the careers....Thats the fight of speed I wanna see :)

Stoner....Marquez is good but the Yamaha's are so far behind you guys are getting a false sense of Super-rider syndrome. If Marquez held it to the wood he would be winning by a much larger margin. The Yamaha SUCK this year. Bring on Stoner lets see the real battle!!!

I think that both in their hungry phases of racing I would give the chocolates to Stoner...Still the fastest rider ever...As usual everyone brings up the Laguna Seca incident...If you compare the two , Marquez gave Rossi plenty of room and was in total control...If you watch the other Rossi was totally out of control and gave Casey no room.. And how you can say Casey didn't like a battle ? Are you kidding me ? Watched the Jerez race the other week that Marquez won and going on the race times Marquez would have finished fourth the year before...No I would still say Casey although this Spanish kid is pretty special...Would love to have seen them head to head..Salivating just thinking about it...

I would love to see stoner come back at Philip island on bradl's bike. If stoner won on a factory non factory team bike, that would settle it for me.

he is the only guy that could possibly do it. maybe he could maybe he couldnt who knows but would make things more interesting.
