Ago, on the MV Agusta, was like shooting fish in a barrel, if all the other competitors had been on similar machinery I am not sure that he'd have won as often. I am not saying he is not a great rider, I just feel he had such a lopsided unfair advantage much of the time. And he isn’t on the list.
Class.
From crash, his top 5 are:
Ago
Nieto
Doohan
Lorenzo
Rossi
It would appear to place VR ahead of MM were it as simple as that.
I'm a huge Lorenzo fan, but place Marquez far higher in my ratings. No he aint on the list, would look pretty egotistical if he did I guess.
He raced against Lorenzo and Rossi and had them covered, so effectively at least fourth.
Doohan of course went on a run of titles after what should have been a career ending Injury. This puts him into the higher echelons of grand prix racers. Imo.If Doohan hadn't injured himself, he would be ahead of both Rossi and MM
These things are very subjective, there is no right or wrong answer, its more so opinion
The way Marquez was embarrassing the grid at Jerez in 2020 before the second crash, and the way everyone else during the year kept throwing away their chance at the title, makes me agree that he would have walked the 2020 title and been in a good to great position for '21 as well. I guess the flip side though is he would probably still be on a factory Honda now that isn't going anywhere rather than in the factory Ducati team with a decent shot to win the next title or two.The same could also have been said of Marquez himself. I think he would have walked the 2020 title, and while more of a struggle, would likely have won the 2021 title also.
