Lorenzo sign with HRC

I didn't say anything on this, I'm merely pointing out that if what JL said holds true, it's questionable that a higher-up vetoes ,when all of the managers & directors of the TEAM wanted him to stay.
What would you expect Lorenzo to say, something disparaging of his performance and reception? He created this situation on his own by capping on Ducati's image when he went rouge. It worked out for him in the end, but he was facing the real possibility of retirement a few weeks ago. That was a situation wholly created by himself. Luckily for him Pedro's career was at its end.

I would expect you to appreciate the difference, firstly considering they were compared to Stoner, secondly (and perhaps firstly) the machine was far more idiosyncratic than the current evolution, which Iannone also scored a win on and had multiple podium finishes by BOTH factory and satellite riders. Lorenzo's lack of performance was unacceptable, and even if we are to use his own words, the current iteration is a race winner compared to 2010 and before. You really want to hang your hat on this point? I'm surprised frankly.

I'm not hanging my hat on anything; that is historical record of a statement Ducati made 10 years ago. I take it you disagree.

Lorenzo's bike has to be setup perfectly, he's a great rider, but if the bike is not working to his style he doesn't perform well and can't adapt and use the bike's strengths and weaknesses ... Ducati changes to his gas tank for example made a huge difference for him.

This is not unusual for MotoGP riders and doesn't reflect their "performance", it just reflects their style and ability to adapt.

The Honda is probably a better bike for Lorenzo physique but Lorenzo will need to understand that Honda have been working on a Marquez bike long before Marquez even made it to MotoGP. Out of the box, it's not going to be a bike Lorenzo likes to ride, the real question is how much are Honda willing to change to make it that "perfect" bike Lorenzo needs to win? I can't see that happening as long as Marquez remains with Honda.

Petrucci to Ducati will be interesting to watch ... Honda have the overall best package, but on the tracks with long straights they're pretty much owned by Ducati. But still puzzled at why Zarco didn't take the Honda ride and went to KTM? Maybe he knows something about KTM's cash flow or maybe he didn't want to adapt to a Marquez bike and could build a KTM to his liking?

What makes you think keeping Lorenzo would have been good for the team. Up until this weekend Lorenzo was embarrassing.

I think there is a fair chance Jorge was contributing to the bike, as it also looks like he was contributing at Yamaha, presumably at least partly why Gigi wanted him and Honda want him.

I actually said on the other thread before this came out that signing a guy who might be able to beat you is a very Honda thing to do, but also agree with the post early in this thread that nobody else can ride a Honda built for MM, and Honda may wish to change this. The Japanese factories care more about the manufacturers’ championship more than most of us do as well.

I agree. What he really needs is a tire which suits him though, and HRC may have the clout and sufficient interest in him to push for such a tire.

Lorenzo likes a softer sidewall construction and Marc demands a harder sidewall construction. JLo is ...... if he thinks Honda is going push for a tire that that doesn’t suit its primary rider.

I guess Marquez is not “blocking” after all.
Second do we know Dorna “helped” Lorenzo with the Honda seat , or is it just another myth like Marquez “blocking”?

Sure, they very definitely won’t push for a change in basic construction which disadvantages MM. They may push for a favourable variant though, which Yamaha didn’t seem interested in doing for him in the last days of Bridgestone, nor did they seem to push for both tires to be kept last year on Vinales’ behalf.

Do you think 2 years old info on the m1 is going to be very useful to HRC?

No, you're right. I don't think he'll provide anything useful on the bike but he might provide some insight on how the two teams operate and react to certain things.

Then you can at least give props to him for 'manipulating/creating' a situation where he lands a ride on a championship winning bike without even having won a race for his current employer. It can't all have been down to luck can it?

I agree with Synn though I would add that it also could be huge for MMs legacy. If he continues to dominate Lorenzo like he has since he came into the class on the same bike then he's undeniable. Lorenzo has the numbers over Rossi on the same bike and is pretty even number wise with Stoner.

Another way to look at it would be that HRC figure Lorenzo will flail about on the Repsol bike making him less of a threat than he would be on the Yamaha. A bargain!

How did he go rouge? You mean the great “mapping 8” race?

I'm reading they signed him before he won in Mugello for about 4m. Less than what he was on and offered at Yamaha IIRC. Not to mention he now has valuable experience on Hondas competitors that he could use to improve the RCV.

Doubtful anything he's done at Ducati will be applicable at HRC, who are extremely prideful about doing everything in a proprietary fashion, as much as possible.

Petrucci to Ducati will be the same as we see now. He will go from being on a current top Ducati to a current top Ducati.

Millar at least would have surely improved. He is going year old Ducati to current top.

I think HRC were in the strong position, Lorenzo's previous track record was his bargaining chip. His stock was down, Honda are the winners here, Lorenzo gets to bask in Honda's shrewd coup.

I'm ok with all of it. I see it as fallout from the 2015 debacle. I also think Lorenzo will do better on RCV than people think. And if he is able to make it more rideable, this benefits Marquez. I'll also add, Marc won't have the luxury of DNFing several times and still winning the title. Then again, as I said in a previous post, if Jlo manages to help make Honda more user-friendly, maybe Marc won't have to ride it like a bat out of hell.

Lorenzo is wearing blusher?

That's the best part of all of this. If Lorenzo gets on his game with the Honda, Marc will have to get serious. When Lorenzo is on his game he isn't easily beaten. I remember Marc following him until the end and pouncng in a last minute desparate attempt (much like me trying to spell every word right), at Indy I think; it was his only hope at beating him.

I don't think Lorenzo can do it but it'll be great watching it all play out.

Jorge will struggle on the Honda. He may win a race or two per year, on a favourite track or if MM falls, Marc will continue to win 6-10.

He will be Pedrobot 2.0

Whooo hooo big ....... news.
