nah, räikkönen is finished. after his 07 wdc he was slower than massa and not exactly the most motivated guy on the grid, couple that with mediocore wrc results so far you have to take a look what options remain : le mans and nascar.

next year he'll be on a factory le mans team for sure before he decides to finally quit

Kimi seriously has to be bored with motorsports if he's coming to NASCAR, I mean really? If I were him I would head to Australia and participate in the V8 Supercars series, and I rate that over our Indy car series. My favorite racing to watch when I can catch it on Speed is Grand-Am with emphisis on the Continental Tire Sport Car Challenge (production based autos), so what does that tell you about the state of auto racing in America.

well theres at least a lot of money in nascar still compared to many other european racing series.

the guy has won f1 and its almost evident that his goal isn't to achieve anymore but well...money i guess

with all due respect to nascar, i think a ex-f1 champion would never go there for any other reasons

cliche I suppose your right....but please....respect for NASCAR...

and I live in the heart of NASCAR country...was a fan growing up, but now they've lost me with their stupid cars, cookie cutter tracks, and one driver domination (Jimmy Johnson). I watch occasionally, but normally only tracks like Bristol or Charlotte and the two road courses.

i don't know very much about nascar and i don't want to be a ........ so i don't talk down something i don't know

lets say from what i've seen it requires a different kind of talent than the pure driving alone road racing requires.otherwise montoya should be good for wins,i have massive respect for his accomplishments in f1 and also cart.

In case you didn't know.... the tracks are all circles, minus the few additions of road courses in recent years. What happened to Ricky Bobby? Is he still racing?

Montoya will break thru sooner or later on something besides a road course. I do think its a testament to the skills of Nascar drivers that someone like Montoya or Marcos Ambrose does not dominate the road courses. These guys can drive, its been proven time and time again that you cant just throw a big name open wheel driver into a Nascar and expect success. It usually turns out bad. Im not 100% sure what seperates the good drivers from the great in Nascar, but i suspect its the superior ability to focus for the amount of time it takes to run a Nascar race. When you take 43 cars that will fly, are ill handling, and stack them 3-4 wide at 200 mph at a track like Daytona for 4 hours,, it has to be mentally exhausting. Throw in the 130 degree work environment, the 5-6 G corners every 3 seconds for 3 hours at a track like Bristol , and it is physically exhausting also.

No .... numb nutz, but not all ovals are the same. Road courses have been a part of NASCAR for more than the last few years, I believe the first road course race was back in the late 50's.

Edit WAY TO GO NICKY HAYDEN....Nicky ....... Hayden.....yea, it's all about Nicky Hayden baby!

Nascar is definately boring, but the guys can drive. Stewart and Jr did the Daytona 200 and some of the road course guys said they learned a lot from the Nascar guys on the banking. Jeff Gordon and Jimmie Johnson partnered with Colin Edwards one year to win the ROC.

I've never taking anything away from the Nascar drivers as they wouldn't be there if they were ...., but it is so damn boring watching the roundy round.

He's not exactly lighting it up rallying is he? Maybe he can be more competitive in NASCAR, if not at least the potential for a bigger paycheck is there.

I'm not sure a factory sports car team would want a driver who seems to be known for lacking focus/motivation.

Grand-Am is garbage. ALMS (at least the GT class) is amazing. 7-8 cars have a serious chance at taking the top spot during a given weekend.

And Grand-Am Cup (sorry, but spelling out the official series name is a waste), had one good year ('08 when everyone left SCCA World Challenge), but with Pat Long participating and Caddy coming back this year, SCCA WC is going to be great.

Shupe, I think he could compete at LeMans. Heck, Villeneuve did. It's one race, and he only needs to compete a few hours in the race. It's not like they'd be asking him to compete for 4-5 hours at a time. Peugeot and Audi were changing drivers every 2-3 hours last year.

The ALMS is a dead series walking. While Grand-Am has maintained some TV presence, planned to rectify the DP's looks, and laid the groundwork for the expansion of the GT class, the ALMS has gone to internet broadcasts, weathered another rules change poorly, and is tied to a foreign organization that does not have the series' best interests at heart. GT2 (E? Pro Am?) is the only thing the ALMS has going for it (who knows how long that will last?).

Good point on the driver shifts at Le Mans. Hopefully the racing can hold the Kimster's interest through the night.

trust me, next year at le mans

he still is an ex-f1 champ and fairly young so that more than compensates for a lack of motivation (sponsorship, media attention, and last but not least kimi has fantastic skill.i was sad to see him leave f1 )

don't worry pov its not like you have to defend nascar here.

some people are passionate about a sport, for somebody who doesnt get it its extremely boring. to each his own

believe it or not , just a couple of days ago i was having a couple of my (non-biker i should say) buddies over for a blunt and we were watching laguna 08 and catalunya 07 and one of the guys was bored to death and said motogp is nothing more to him then the same noise passing by over and over again and a couple of power rangers dragging knee.

nearly punched the blunt down his throat at that point though

Different strokes for different folks. Take for example, Roger loves ice figure skating and calls it a sport. I hate figure skating and thinks it's nothing more then a popularity contest.

Anyways, I can't stand Kimi. The sooner he disappears in motorsports the better.

why ?he's a great driver ,gets drunk and falls of his yacht for everybody to see on youtube and shoves annoying reporters to the ground to get warmed for a race.

not a big talker but given his other abilities i don't care

Go to a race some day. Its a completely different experience. The noise, the smell, the speed, the atmosphere, just cant be captured on TV. I would suggest Atlanta or Charlotte for the faster tracks.

I have taken numerous riders with me to bike events and they were bored out of their minds. These are guys that are serious riders, but sitting in the hot sun, waiting 2 minutes for the bikes to go blazing past, then nothing for 2 minutes is not what they consider fun. Road Racing is better watched on TV, but its about the whole weekend experience that makes me go. The ride on Friday, . the ..... bars, getting high with your friends sitting at the motel pool, meeting Mexicans that throw tequila shots at you,the food, the ride home. You cant get that on the couch, but the viewing is way better. Its the opposite at a Nascar track, the viewing is very good, no matter where you sit, and when 43 cars come by at 200+ mph, you not only hear it, you feel it
