Not hatin' so your statement is unfounded. I just lost a bit of whatever I had for him because he is trying to be Valentino. It is so obvious that he is so it isn't like I am dreaming this up. As far as I know and please correct me if I am wrong, there is no current to date documentary on Valentino Rossi is there? If there is anyone deserving it is him. There are other past champs that deserve it more so than Jorge. It is clearly the spanish trying to make him the face of the sport.
It was meant to be a tongue in cheek remark. You know, because the term hating is used often when people voice criticism on Rossi.
Seriously though, what's interesting to me about this, is that Lorenzo really seems to be all about fighting Rossi in Rossi's own game. And that game extends beyond the racetrack. I believe some of the people behind Lorenzo have realised very early on that in order to get into a position that allows him to fight Rossi, he needs to emulate, maybe even outdo Rossi in terms of marketing potential. Hence the elaborate celebrations back even in his 250 days, hiring PR professionals to help (I believe, but am not certain that he also had a psychologist help him for some time) and his overall effort to outdo Rossi as far as hyperinflated ego is concerned.
Is this a bad thing? It worked seems to have worked for him. He got on the factory team, he's got a WC, he even arguably forced Rossi out. And although you could argue this has made him a phoney person, I think all things considering (and by this I hint at the way he grew up and things with his father went), he does now come across as a reasonably balanced young man, all things considering. I am most in awe of his ability to take losses. But I'd switch of the tv before I'd have to suffer through another one of this bloody celebrations.
You can contrast Lorenzo nicely with Stoner. Both went head to head with Rossi, but Stoner only did it on the race track. That guy actually was content at one time to settle for less salary. believing that Ducati would use the extra money to develop their bike (any behavioral economist could have told him that this would backfire). And he obviously despises circus antics. Lorenzo though, he engaged Rossi in Rossi's game. It's all about manouvering yourself into the right position I believe. Money is secondary.
Anyway, I'm rambling, nevermind me. But maybe now some of the Rossi fans may now better comprehend how annoying the custard colored ....... show can be (expression borrowed form another user on this board)....
