Wow!

You write so little, but say so much between the lines.

What you are implying has got to be the understatement of the week, particularly if this 'understanding' within the team will carry forward for the next race or three.

It speaks volumes about the company's mindset and faith in their star.

Not their star, his entourage. Turns out they're not the hotshots Ducati (and the rest of the world) thought they were.

EDIT: Gabbarini made a bike Stoner could win on. Martinez made a bike Hayden could podium on. Burgess made a bike Rossi can get 6th on.

Wow alright. A case of too old, to set in their ways? A fundamental issue with leaving Yamaha against their wishes......? Or just never that good, and their riders made the difference for them?

I wouldn't discount Burgess like that. There were many a races where he pulled the proverbial rabbit out of the hat and gave Rossi a bike he can deliver a win on. Of course the rider still had to make the difference in the end, but to discredit his crew is idiotic in my opinion.

Vintage Powerslide, Pete takes a crack at Mdub's ex-wife, Mdub takes a crack at his own ex-wife haha. .

Dude, where have you been, I thought you knew. Maybe she was racist or something because we all had a crack at MDubs ex wife

When I read some of the comments floating around after Qatar and the attempt at damage control, I thought...this aint over...

Anyway, as usual, thanks for the insight, I can only imagine the complexity of balance you must deal with in reporting. Btw, any chance you can get the Jumkie Rule and its addendum imposed for next GP? (MotoChick has made contact and was wondering).

Burgess has worked with Freddie Spencer, Wayne Gardner, Mick Doohan and Valentino Rossi. They've won a lot of titles between them. How many of those do you think were mainly down to Burgess?

Estoril is too early, but I'll have a word in Ezpeleta's ear in Portugal. If you're lucky, you should be good after Le Mans. Barcelona, tops.

Googling Burgess' lap times but nothing comes up. The Google machine must not be working properly.

Eh, that's kinda what I meant - the 'Magic Team' as a whole.

Thanks.

Of course, I agree he has had some serious talent on seriously good machines. Well something got to give, but Rossi has also been a great supporter of his crew over the years.

Thanks for your insight Kropo

Yes, he has shown rather good judgement in regard to those for whom he twirled the spanners. As I have said previously he is now old in most terms not just motogp terms, and he may be the one not adjusting to a new paradigm, particularly with the other pressures in his life. He did still seem capable of at least contributing to an overnight miracle as recently as laguna seca 2008 though.

I don't think stoner's crew have got the gredit they deserve over the years, and it was noticeable how stoner went straight to gabbarini after the race, and thanked him and the crew effusively in the podium interview.

Jaz, i think u grossly oversimplified the point.

I'm with you on this, it's Ducati not JB who has a reputation for killing careers and when he worked for Honda they were in charge of who he was assigned to. To say his success as a crew chief and mechanic came to down to his having good riders is complete BS. You don't keep a guy with your best riders if he's a bum, you don't send them crappy mechanics and engineers, you give them the best you have to offer.

Bit tough on him also since going on a TV interview he did during a race coverage on Australian TV in 2010 before valentino was signed by ducati ( I think during the period he was out injured) JB seemed to have misgivings about ducati, and I think may well have gone there as a favour to valentino.
