is valentino rossi the greatest

Dovi?
since 2004, I believe.

Yes, but Dovi doesn't have millions of people worshipping him and stating that he is the best rider history has ever seen and hating every single rival he ever had.

EDIT: this is my 46th post, eff you :)

That is a shifting of goalposts.
Your initial claim was that Rossi has not won a championship since 2009. You were talking about on track performance, so I will stick to that.

My question is why is a guy who has only won a minor leagues championship in 2004 worthy of a factory seat in 2018, if a guy who has 9 championships and last won the big one in 2009 is not worthy.

And since 2014, has only finished lower than second once.

Easy. It’s been years since Rossi’s come within miles of Dovi’s 2017 consistent results and what’s currently happening is salient. Those that offer factory rides logically do so based on current results - not nostalgic or sentimental factors.

Same reason Honda would throw Pedro under a bus in a second to keep Marquez. MotoGP is about the future, not the past. No one remembers second best. Unless he just happens to sell a lot of t shirts.......

Now will you kindly show me where I wrote "Dovizioso deserves a factory seat while Rossi does not?"

Spoiler: I did not.

If you are assuming I think stuff I did not write, that is your problem not mine, and sure as heck I don't owe you an explanation of things you think I think, that I don't think :D

As per my stating, what I meant is: how may a guy that has not won a title in almost a decade be defined the greatest? He sure is one helluva a rider but I don't reckon he's the greatest.

As per Dovi: you may find me several times saying he's my favorite, but not even ironically saying he's the greatest.

And this is all he's good at since the end of Saturday Night Specials!!!!!

Should have stuck with your original line of argument because this makes even less sense.

So his crime is that he is still competitive, but not as good as he used to be? You would be hard pressed to find any human being in any sport that is capable of that.

There isn’t a single one of his contemporaries who would have been remotely as fast as him at his age, given whatever bike. There are people less than half his age who would never be as fast as he is on his worst day, given any bike.

Every sports person has a peak. Rossi’s peak is behind him and everyone knows that. But even in the tail end of his career, he is still extremely competitive. That happens with special racers. And such racers have a claim to being an all time great.

If that’s not enough, 9 championships across all classes, 2 stroke and 4 stroke premier titles, being one of the main inspirations for almost every rider who came after him and middle fingering max biaggi at 230kmph, wheels on the grass as he recovers from getting elbowed out will do.

Stacey Moaner would have cried in the showers and wrote a poem or something after that.

In the line you quoted, I openly said that he is a very, very good rider using the slang expression "helluva", so why are you writing a novel to tell me he's good, after I said he's good?

I am not telling you he’s good, I am telling you he is in consideration for the greatest of all time by anyone who wasn’t dropped on their head as a kid.

Hell, crutchlow was probably dropped on his head as a kid and even he would say Rossi is in line for GOAT. In fact, every single rider racing now in MotoGP (Except J.Lo, who is a sad little ....) would say the same.

Fortunately, their opinions carry a bit more weight that that of the United virgins of Motogpforum.

A strong hatred against Lorenzo, the absolute certainty that anyone who doesn't think Rossi is the best ever is ........, or to use your words "has dropped their head as a kid" :D:D:D:D

You sure are a Rossi fan, Mr. Synn, you really are.

Macho posturing is a piss-poor substitute for coherent logic.

Tell me Ramesh, how is it that all 1billion of your people can find their way on to the internet to bestow upon us their completely irrelevant opinions about everything, but still can’t figure out how to build a half decent toilet?

Actually, even Lorenzo said Rossi is the greatest!

Rea said the same etc.

Jonathan Rea: Rossi is the greatest of all time ? GPxtra

I think Rossi is the GOAT, but MM may eclipse him. Time will tell.

I would be the first to cheer Marquez if he manages that, I just hope his body holds up after all his superhuman saves and crashes. It’s one thing to go through them when you’re 24, it’s a whole different thing when you’re pushing 30.

Agreed. That's the main risk. The lad crashes way too much, I fear. He has really impressive flexibility and strength (for his size), but ligaments can only stretch so much. One bad highside is enough to mess up a shoulder or knee, though these fantastic airbag suits should help.

Here's a newflash for you Short-Pants... I'm not from India. And I'm not of Indian decent. That of course won't stop you from offering still more half-baked opinions and assumptions based on the kind of general ignorance and hillbilly bigotry that comprises pretty much everything you post here. And while it's true that in some "third-world" countries some people don't have the ways and means to provide good sanitation - at least the Indians (unlike your kind) have the common sense not to do their al fresco dining on one of these.
