Is MCN full of crap?

I was reading the UK MCN in detail today, specifically the sport headline that at the post race test on Monday, Rossi was testing the '05 bike in vintage yamaha yellow laguna seca bodywork. I was intrigued by this 'fact' but could find no other mention of it in the press or internet anywhere. The whole story seemed a bit strange. I looked more closely at the photo on the back page to see one of Rossi's 2005 helmets sat beside the bike. Why would Rossi be using last years helmat at Jerez unless the photo was actually taken sometime in 2005 probably at laguna seca.

Tossers!

or am I wrong?

Iteresting observation, Skid. I think the stories true, I saw it on motogp.com I think. Maybe the pic was just a file photo of the '05 M1?

hey Skidmark,

I think its true..............who knows............its been reported on various web sites, inc this one:

http://motoring.co.za/index.php?fArticleId...=759&fSetId=381

<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE <div class='quotemain'>"We also had Valentino ride the 2005 M1 for a few laps so we could compare its performance at this track with that of the new bike.

"It was interesting to see the difference - a few things about the '05 bike are better at the moment, but overall it seems the '06 bike is still a better package and Valentino's fastest times yesterday were on the 2006-spec M1

Interesting stuff though............getting out last years bike isnt a positive thing really?

I couldn't find it Richo, if you have a link to it on motogp.com, post it would ya? cheers.

Yeah Ben it's not good for the yamaha boys. 1st round over and there is still a lack of direction. Potentially very good for the championship though.

To go forward sometimes we need to take a step back

this 'is' or will be a positive move if they use the 2005 mocheen to pin point what is hinddering the 06 setup,.

Note:-
Rossi's pole last year was 1.39.419,. Loris this year was 1.39.064
Rossi's best race lap lasy year was 1.40.596 Loris this year was 1.41.248

I'd go with the 05 bike if I were Val

If we were comparing 2004 against 2005 I'd say it was the reduced fuel load but this year there are no regulation changes I'm aware of that would affect race times. Teo said somwhere else that there must be something different about the conditions and I agree. I read that Loris said the track was too clean on Friday. There had been a lot of rain at Jerez since the last test. I think that could explain the slower race pace.

Oh ballacks skidmark
<
,. could u imagine turning up at Modello and telling your mates your a bit slowing than last year cuz the track is too clean,. f__k sake
<
,. my sponsor would have thought I was still too pissed from Prosperous
<
<
<

anyhow the track wasn't that clean after a few laps of the Loris fella,. f__k me man did he ever put the power down,. I think he raised the speed of the earths revolutions
<

Right, carpark, now, bring yer mates
<

Loris did say that no rubber had been laid down after the first day, like a track at the start of the season or after rain, which affected everybody's pace. Is there any other explaination for the 'slower' racepace this year? I don't know maybe there is? That one makes some sense to me. You should have experienced that yourself. I could be talking ballix but there has to be some reason? There's no way in the world Rossi would have been almost a second a lap faster than everyone else in the race on last years bike. That would have meant he'd have won the race by almost 20 seconds, ballix. He still went quicker on the 2006 bike on the monday after the gp so really it's anybody's guess what's really goin on.

ah for feck sake,... ye big wuss ye
<

you must have had very understanding mates,. I wouldn't dare mention that ..... to them, they'd laugh there ballacks off
<
<

can't go fast cuz track too clean my ....
<

maybe,. just maybe it would affect times a little having a completely clean scrubbed sterilised surface but I just think Rossi went damm fast last year with a perfect setup,.

Loris went damm fast but was fighting that beast all the way,.
I can see now that if da Rossi fella gets the 06 M1 sorted he'll be off into the distance again, defo

So to put a finer point on it - what you're saying is the amount of rubber laid down on the racing line has no effect on grip??? I don't buy that for a second so I'll agree to differ with you there TC.

Anyway will Rossi have the bike sorted in time for Qatar? I'm sure there's a lot of activity in the yamaha camp. It's gonna be very interesting to see what they've 'fixed' since Jerez. Once they have got the bike sorted, whenever that is, I hope he doesn't run away with it. That wouldn't be as exciting as opposed to a good year long struggle for the title.

I`ve read MCN for the past 30 yrs, sadly its slimmed down a bit but it is still a useful read...just wish they hadn`t cut the offroad section so badly.

t'was tugging your tail a bit there skidders
<

of course I agree, a bit of rubber always help,. but am still not sure as to the extent of last years and this years time difference
<

in one way I would like to see him sort it out and bugger off, but being from SuperSport stock
<
one like's to 'feel' the other guy carbon [ or fiberglass as it was a few year ago
<
] mid race,..

a victory is not a real good'un unless ye had rubbed a little rubber eh ?

I wouldn`t know, but wouldnt there be rubber left after the tests anyway?
<

As for Rossi`s lap times, he wouldn`t clock a lap that fast every time, you could look at the overall race times and compare them, but even that dosent take into account traffic and stuff

from what I remember of teh stats,. Rossi's Qual lap last year was appox .4 sec's slower than Cappers this year,. however Rossi's Race time was faster than Cappers this year !,. which is why I punted the questiion about if Rossi had used the 05 M1 he would [ by last years times ] have qualifid in 3rd,. and went on to win the race barring rednecks getting in the way

hmmmm..... is this a reference to hayden?
