INDY 2010: prediction, practice, qual

yeah it sure seems that way doesnt it. I mean he hardly could pass the parmac team in mid practice. Its unforunate if thats true because stoner was flying, so Im guessing Ducati doesnt play those games.

Did seem very strange.....easy to write off last time, but this is starting to seem like a regular occurance now.

But now he's between 0.5-0.9 seconds behind lorenzo at all times. and even struggling to keep pace with sattelite teams.

Mind you you can understand yamaha in one sense, last thing they want is the possibility of rossi managing to steal some limelight before jumping to ducati....but hardly a respectful way of letting go of the guy who really made the yam a winning bike for the last 7 years.

Ineteresting...

The ........ thing about this is that we don't know if there is anything different about Rossi's bike and we probably never will.

I'm not going down the path of saying things like that unless we have some sort of confirmation. It's food for conspiracy theories though.

It is good to see the Duke is fast for Hayden more importantly that Stoner. Stoner seems to be able to get a quick lap out of a shopping trolley with a bung wheel whereas Hayden is more conventional in his riding. Those new front forks must be a step in the right direction.

I can't really take this seriously. There's no way Yamaha would intentionally shame Rossi - especially

in such an conspicuous fashion. Either he's having more difficulty with his injuries or he's riding poorly to

protest Yamaha not acquiescing to his request to be able to test at Valencia. Or he's sandbagging till

QP.

Yamaha de-tuning Rossis bike

How? Rossi and his team know the M1 specs pretty well.

Or at least they know how the M1 was at season's start. But, they have been out of the loop for many races.

There is no way they could know whether Lorenzo's M1 has been further improved or not (thanks also to the mistake Rossi made, to have all data sharing cut between the two sides of the garage).

Pitfalls of assuming he'd always be #1 rider and supplied with all the latest from R&D whatever comes
<

Anyway it is clear that, at least until Lorenzo has mathematically secured his championship, Yamaha have no interest whatsoever in complicating their own life by allowing again internal strife at the levels of 2009. If anything, they'll try to make Spies more competitive with the mission to close as many races as possible, and maybe the championship, ahead of the new enemy Rossi -- after all, he is their #2 factory rider, not Valentino who is now lowest in Yamaha's priorities
<

Rossi's looking 20 years older than usual - like he wishes he were sleeping in his rocker with a banjo in his lap, snoring with the porch monkeys. Curvey, you got an extra spot out in front of your shack?
<
I'd say his injuries are definitely slowing him down. The boy needs him a B12 shot.

A look at last year's FP time and this year's might throw some light on this. Where's a statistician when you need one?

Hard to call it until tomorrow, if VR's still in the Satellite timezones then we know something is definitely not right.....what its is will be very hard to know for sure unless the man qualifies it himself. I don't really know what Yamaha could do to slow him down? They can't really take anything away, not provide new bits maybe.

I don't believe its possible that he is riding poorly to protest Yamaha, unless that relationship is far worse than we thought........

To be clear... I didn't mean to suggest the protest thing seriously. Just spinning my wheels. He's too much of a pro.

Just curious, how long have you been following Vale, and GP in general?

I know your going to throw the "its not in vale's dna to ride that way" at me, but vale hasnt had to contend with a really strong partner of this calibur before(apart from last season when they both seemed on a level, which makes this season all teh more strange).....and why try hard and quite possibly still come out 2nd best when you can stroll along and play the "the bike isnt top notch" card.

I love rossi but its a possibility.

2009 FP2

4th VR 1.41.389

Peddrs quickest 1.40.271

Jorge 1.41.286

2010

5th VR 1.41.683

Stoner Quickest 1.40.884

Jorge 1.41.109

Pedders 1.41.421

Ground and air temps a bit warmer this year, both Pedders and Rossi slower than last year by similar margins. Can't cry fowl on this one, haven't looked at lap average times though......

Well the lap record is around 1:39:700 mark by dani.

The best lap today was stoner at 1:40:884.....

Rossi 2008 indy qualifying time

1min 40.776sec

Rossi 2009 indy qualifying time

1min 41.389 sec

Couldnt find friday practise times for previous years but didnt look too hard.

Rossi, is allegedly on the development bike, yes? This is why his bike and Jorge's bike are so different and why Rossi always claims that he is doing the development work for Jorge (since 2008 when Rossi developed the Yam for Bridgestones, before that it was Colin doing the donkey work). If Rossi is the development rider then Yamaha have probably got him testing new engine kit. IIRC, Rossi was testing a new engine spec at Brno so maybe they've put that engine in his bike.

I doubt it's something so pointless as detuning Rossi's bike as Curve has suggested. If Yamaha want Rossi not to interfere with Lorenzo's championship run, they'd have the decency to put him on testing duty, imo.
