HRC (Honda Racing Corporation) boss Shuhei Nakamoto has been asked by Honda to cut his budet for the 2012 season by 30 per cent in order to save costs in a move he thinks is'impossible'.

Honda are still struggling with the supply of incoming parts after the earthquake and subsequent tsunami and have seen sales figures fall to 70 per cent of normal so HRC have been asked to spent significantly less on racing in 2012.

From HRC we are asking for the same budget as this year, but the company clearly said no. Because of the tsunami and earthquake, the parts supplier couldn't supply several parts, therefore we couldn't make the cars. Overall Honda business, car sales are about 70% and we could only produce 30% fewer cars if you compare to last year," said the Japanese.

"This means that only 70 per cent we could make. This number is a big damage to Honda's overall budget. The first request from Honda Motor Corp to HRC is we must cut 30% of the budget, but it's impossible! I tried to convince them that this can't be done, this was my biggest job. Fortunately I recover a little bit, but 30% is impossible, I think."

Because these cuts, Nakamoto is also not in a position to dole out the non-Repsol backed factory bikes but is keen to keep both Andrea Dovizioso and Marco Simoncelli on HRC-prepared RC213V machinery.

We are talking, not decided yet. We have many requests, but just talking, nothing decided. Dani and Casey are both under contract, for two riders we have decided. But we are talking to Marco and Andrea. And also some of the new teams want to use Honda's machine, we are talking," he said.

"For the level next year, you know that in Japan we had a big earthquake and tsunami, so we in Honda Motor Company, usually in next year's budget we already know in August, sometimes the end of July, but this year, everything delayed. The situation is that we are still talking in this year's budget and also we have just started to talk about next year's budget.

"Very difficult position to make an answer to the riders. I am very happy with Marco and Andrea, both riders are growing a lot. I'm very happy, I wanted to keep both of them, but I can say nothing here because I am waiting and I am trying to find budget for them."

Maybe they can start leasing out Honda's to Ducati. That should help them with some revenue problems and Rossi will be on a winning bike, win-win situation. Or...they could just get rid of Simo, just think of the savings. (Sorry Travi, I couldn't resist).

Ok, so HRC has to tighten the belt. I expect the non-factory bikes to suffer, as I'm sure updates will crawl to a snail pace. But then again, the other two Japanese companies are probably hurting a bit on funds, except Ducati. So will this level out the playing field a bit? In theory, yes.

with 1000% more to show for it lol

Ah yes....but if suzuki spent the same would Honda still 1000% more to show.........methinks definitely not.

Maybe this will lessen Honda's influence in the rule making.......with any luck

Lots of interesting Honda rumors floating about. Dovi's demands to LCR are high enough that Hopkins is being considered instead, plus if Dovi is hired HRC wants Lucio to can his crew and hire Dovi's current crew. Simoncelli may stay on the HRC payroll but will not have a factory bike (those will only be at Repsol).

And not a Honda rumor but Edwards is talking to a CRT team.

No clue about Aoyama.

Simoncelli would have received the third if there was one (there was talk of 4 at one point, that is apparently history). It sounds like Marco may actually have his salary paid by HRC, which I did not expect, Dovi made the ....-list (in my opinion) when he waived his contract and threatened litigation to remain at Repsol - I'm not surprised to see him the odd man out despite a decent season.

Well, there are always the CRT bikes. It will be interesting to see Simo's pace next year if he is dropped from factory ride. I mean, what you ride in GP is of no consequence, right?

Or, some rules changes will be made to dumb down the factories in favor of cost savings. And though Kropo thinks this may be a "paranoid" thought, now that Wsbk will be some kind of subsiderary of GP, something big may happen to "save costs" at Wsbk me thinks.

He simply couldn't get away with it, unlike others who threaten to leave the series...oh wait, I'm just hating, unlike you. (Oh I know, you can't make the connection, sorry, I'll just read it at face value that Honda just want to save money, no need for me to analyze it, right?)

He did the smart thing though, one more chance to shine on the factory ride and his racing has been pretty impressive this year. He should be able to get paid a little better if anything after this years performance and I bet plenty of teams would like to have him.

I have no idea what you are rambling about, so I guess what I cannot analyze is your thought processes.

Hawkdriver, Dovi did nothing for himself - there are no factory teams to want him (unless it's Suzuki). He's dealing with LCR at this point. No one gets rich at LCR.

I think Dovi said it best, nobody likes "boring" people. "Boring" as in well grounded, mannered, business like professionalism, and characteristics along those line. Let me get this straight, he threatens his employer to abide by the contract they agreed to, and this has made him the bad guy? On a related note, imagine if say HRC said, look, we just can't employ another factory guy next year and Dovi threatened to leave the series, do you think any phones might be ringing at Dorna in crisis mode? How many times has he made the podium this year in the middle of other "aliens"? But more talk surrounds Simo, who has one podium...behind Dovi to boot. I guess the lesson for me is, not all Italians are made equal.

Yes Biggy, I've honestly now realized this, hence, no substantive reply from me.

HRC tells riders what they are doing, they don't ask. Waive your contract to force their hand and you are a 'bad guy' in their eyes, not in mine. I said before this season started that Dovi had no shot at a factory HRC ride in '12 unless he made the requested Gresini move. This would be the norm in much of the business world too.

I don't blame Dovi for forcing their hand, and he is not a 'bad guy' in my eyes, but if he wants to stay with HRC it was a mistake. This is reality, not 'hating'. There is one rider I genuinely dislike, and his name is Max Biaggi.
