Honda offered more to Jorge than to keep Casey Stoner

On the fire blade one, he backs the bike in to a left hander and leaves a black line from the rear tyre, as if it has been locked up..... Check it out Baz! Haha

Where is the backs it in bit in the fireblade ad? Where is the "leaves black lines" bit?

I don't dispute stoner may of had the championship wrapped up by PI, maybe im being pedantic but my dispute was your claim lorenzo was fully fit in 2011 which was your original debate with pete.

Splitting hairs. Whether stoner had a better bike is arguable, although not an argument I would choose to initiate about any championship myself, but barring catastrophic injury to stoner (which didn't occur although in jorge's absence) his chance of the championship was a minor arithmetical one at best due to results before his injury, which he incurred trying to find the pace to match stoner at PI anyway.

Yep, Lorenzo is better. He is worth more money. Stoner is ...., worth not as much money.

Glad we sorted that one out.

He led the championship at the british gp where he crashed out of third place. His 6th place finish at Assen may indicate he was not "fully fit" which was petes point. Mike named 2011 as a year lorenzo was fully fit. He then lost his finger at PI in practice missing the last three races, but we have to take into account sepang was cancelled so all missed that race.

Barry and kesh, do you ever have anything worth while to add to these discussions? Kesh, your a hypocrite, When you needle non stoner fans your just playing and it's ok but look what you said to pete when he has a laugh ! BM your just a .... !

Context: They may have offered Jlo more, but only AFTER they could NOT convince Stoner to stay. Its not rocket science. After that the next most valuable rider in their minds was Jlo. As is the usual practice, increasing the bid Is common when u either get desperate, or as somebody said, Repsol may have seen their chance at getting a Spanish contender for a change. They prob felt they needed to double down, as who would fill the Stoner void, Pedro? Haha, yeah right. I dont think Honda would have had any problem upping the ante for Stoner. I think once they realized increasing the wage would have no effect, they simply stopped, as it had become futile. Casey prob said, dude, i dont care how much u offer. Peeps want to read way more into this situation.

As far as why CS is retiring, well i think he pretty much outlined the main reasons. Some i agree with some i dont, but as i said before, its his life. But as Rog mentioned in regards to what triggered it, or perhaps past the boiling point, i think it had to do with whoever leaked the fact he was toying with retirement. That in my opinion may have sealed the deal. Dont know if that came from Suppo, who might have had other ideas, perhaps thinking Stoner was playing hardball tactics; but it seems to have backfire. Either way, i wouldnt consider Suppo somebody of alofty character. As i've said before, GP is a hotbed for various degrees of snakes, sharks, scum, Carmelos and Puigs. Some peeps arent cut out for this or choose to be part of this type of putrid environment. Other than the occasional foot in mouth (marshals, CRT rules, imaginary balks, etc) im really starting to enjoy the big .... YOU he is directing at Dorna.

You do realise jumkie, that by one argument on this thread stoner has never won a title against a fit lorenzo. This of course means that rossi has never won a title against a fit stoner, while stoner has beaten a fit rossi (in 2007), but rossi has won against a fit lorenzo (in 2009); however lorenzo has not won a title against a fit rossi, but has against a fit stoner (in 2010). None among rossi, stoner and lorenzo have won a title against a fit pedrosa though, some might argue perhaps partly related to him having never been fit in any titles they have won against him, but nevertheless so. By an inexorable chain of logic, this means that if a fit pedrosa wins this year and the other 3 stay fit then he is the best among them (perhaps not all that absurd, in all honesty).

You, naturally, will have picked the logical flaw, since nicky hayden did beat a fairly fit pedrosa for the 2006 title (some soft tissue injuries I believe, but no fractures of significant structural bones). You had best start supporting dani for this year's title.

You made me dizzy there.

I can play reductio ad absurdum.

My personal view is that all premier class titles should be credited, rather than discredited, as a starting point.

Exactly, all riders have their share of bumps and bruises along the way of a 18 race season. Even the get offs that they walk away from hurt, and hurt for a while.

Damned right. They generally don't give it a lot of play. But guaranteed, Lorenzo was still sore as hell at the last race after having Bautista use it as a berm.

Probably I do not remember well.

Was Stoner unfit in 2008?

Was Pedro unfit in 2007?

I was being facetious, following a discussion concerning stoner having not won a title against a fit lorenzo. Rossi of course won the 2008 world championship on merit, one of his very best championships, with stoner's late season scaphoid problem occurring after rossi had gained a decisive lead prior to its occurrence, and had as little relevance to stoner failing to defend his title as jorge's finger injury did to his title defence as I said, without belittling jorge's injury itself. Dani did miss races in 2007 and was affected by injury in other races, and has had broken bones almost every year since 2006; I lose track of which ones occurred in which years, there being so many, but there are profiles on him which list them all.

Is that your opinion or is it a fact?

I could only claim it as fact if I had read the contract or been part of the negotiation which I was not. But, as others have said there were reports and I think it was even a direct quote from Nakamoto himself saying that they had offered to remove all PR stuff if he stayed for another year. Also what Jumkie said about the leaking of the negotiation and Stoners serious consideration of retirement was from Stoners account the final straw that pushed him over the edge and ended all negotiations.

All this talk about salaries, anyone know how much these offers were?

HRC Stoner final offer $12m

HRC Lorenzo supposed offer $12.5m

Yamaha Lorenzo signed $10m

I wouldn't really know just having a guess

Remember Duc offered 15 mil to Jlo? How much is Rossi making? How much will Cal make?

Rossi salary is $17 million, with $13 million in endorsments on top of that.

....compare that to 35 year old boxer Floyd Mayweather's $85 million from salary/winnings alone......

Anyway, there's some more ammo for the Rossi bashers with wich to start many useless comparisons.
