Honda offered more to Jorge than to keep Casey Stoner

Sometimes this forum is beyond belief.

Sometimes?

Don't remember where but I have read that more than a few times.

Think about it.... how many PR videos have you ever seen Stoner take part in?

I haven't seen any.

i know of 2, one where he rides a fireblade and one where he rides a 125 or 150 ,just short riding videos though

Of course they did, one word 'Repsol'....this is hardly surprising

And Stoner has the worst PR skills of any high profile professional athlete today..........simple. His only value is 'on track', which is still enough to attract a decent amount of cash, but not Rossi or Lorenzo cash.

I know he hates the RP, i was just interested to know if its fact that this was or was not part of the deal to keep him. could be another reason for him leaving if honda needed him to do more PR than he was willing to do. I said right at the start i believed something had gone on behind the scenes forcing the issue of his retirement rather than the lame ... excuses he gave in an interview. If there were some proof of his negotiation regarding this PR issue it may have shed some light. Hence me asking MA the question. He may have seen some proof.

Meh ...... whats the big deal?

After Stoner tells them he wants to retire, Nakamoto offers Stoner the largest amount yet to ride again ......... Stoner says no .....

logical next step ...... "we need somebody and we mustpay, lets up the bid". Its happened to me, some companies just keep offerring more until they get what they want. Simple.

This ain't an "award rate salary job", or even a "what do you need to do the job" job, ............ its a "what would you take to have a go at the job?" job.

Context: They may have offered Jlo more, but only AFTER they could NOT convince Stoner to stay. Its not rocket science. After that the next most valuable rider in their minds was Jlo. As is the usual practice, increasing the bid Is common when u either get desperate, or as somebody said, Repsol may have seen their chance at getting a Spanish contender for a change. They prob felt they needed to double down, as who would fill the Stoner void, Pedro? Haha, yeah right. I dont think Honda would have had any problem upping the ante for Stoner. I think once they realized increasing the wage would have no effect, they simply stopped, as it had become futile. Casey prob said, dude, i dont care how much u offer. Peeps want to read way more into this situation.

As far as why CS is retiring, well i think he pretty much outlined the main reasons. Some i agree with some i dont, but as i said before, its his life. But as Rog mentioned in regards to what triggered it, or perhaps past the boiling point, i think it had to do with whoever leaked the fact he was toying with retirement. That in my opinion may have sealed the deal. Dont know if that came from Suppo, who might have had other ideas, perhaps thinking Stoner was playing hardball tactics; but it seems to have backfire. Either way, i wouldnt consider Suppo somebody of alofty character. As i've said before, GP is a hotbed for various degrees of snakes, sharks, scum, Carmelos and Puigs. Some peeps arent cut out for this or choose to be part of this type of putrid environment. Other than the occasional foot in mouth (marshals, CRT rules, imaginary balks, etc) im really starting to enjoy the big .... YOU he is directing at Dorna.

On the fire blade one, he backs the bike in to a left hander and leaves a black line from the rear tyre, as if it has been locked up..... Check it out Baz! Haha

Can I just point out it was Pedrosa I was referring to who has no motogp titles. I have noticed that Casey has 2. Again, actually reading what is written will help you understand.

yea, but I think the championship was a foregone conclusion by that time?

He led the championship at the british gp where he crashed out of third place. His 6th place finish at Assen may indicate he was not "fully fit" which was petes point. Mike named 2011 as a year lorenzo was fully fit. He then lost his finger at PI in practice missing the last three races, but we have to take into account sepang was cancelled so all missed that race.

Barry and kesh, do you ever have anything worth while to add to these discussions? Kesh, your a hypocrite, When you needle non stoner fans your just playing and it's ok but look what you said to pete when he has a laugh ! BM your just a .... !

None of them are ever fully fit. I was obviously aware of jorge's finger injury since I posted my disappointment that he wasn't able to race (among others) at PI last year, and opined that such a worthy champion deserved the opportunity to go down fighting on the track.

However, his finger injury was about as relevant to him not defending his title as stoner's scaphoid problem was to his failed title defence in 2008. At best without the injury he may have been able to win if stoner had got seriously injured.

Not particularly fussed if honda offered jorge more money than stoner, if they did rather than suppo saying that they did. If they did so because they think jorge is better rather than the other reasons which have been advanced they are entitled to their opinion and I wouldn't say anyone could call them incorrect; he was certainly a better long-term prospect even before stoner's retirement, as stoner was likely to stay a maximum of only 2 years anyway, whereas I think it likely jorge has much longer term ambitions. There doesn't seem to be any suggestion they approached him before stoner knocked them back though.

And yes, I am an arrogant prick. Your problem is?

I don't dispute stoner may of had the championship wrapped up by PI, maybe im being pedantic but my dispute was your claim lorenzo was fully fit in 2011 which was your original debate with pete.

Is that like the black lines into turn 3 at PI? are you saying he's skidding it everywhere!!?? wow I'll have to try the Arab method too now if I have to "skid" to leave black lines!

Only locked up back end leaves black lines does it?
