Would a helmet cam be possible for Moto GP? I have seen them used in car racing. It would be cool if it were possible. It would give a better view of what the rider sees than the fairing cam.
I don't think it will work exactly as you think. The most riders helmets don't always point where they are looking. A good example is Rossi and Capirossi. With Vale, we would mainly see the inside of the corner, and Loris's gas tank on the straits.
I'll bet the main reason has to due with wind turbulence. When you get above 65mph, a helmet can move around abit. At the speed they go around the track, it would be nauseous to watch
Specially for Portugal and Valencia rounds with Nicky And Valentino looking around for each other. Sweet if ya could hear them talking to themselfs..... Rossi and Hayden "I dont think so pal, your not goin up the inside there....... Unlucky"

placement on the helmet would be an issue ... as would the technology coping with the pressure and vibrations on the bike.
imagine if they crashed! im sure their helmets cost enough as it is ... adding another couple of $grand onto that wouldn't help
Your kidding arent you? The cameras they have on the bikes are TINY and could easily fit in a helmet i rekon, looking out the vizor, and how come the cameras can deal with the vibrations while they are on the fairings etc?
Cameras get wrecked when they crash now so that wouldnt be an issue..
I think it would be good, i cant see why it wont happen soon...
I think it would be quite cool if the picture was decent, i.e. looking forward.........they would get some cool shots at the donington invasion!

i just thought if the riders heads are constantly moving around and looking in different directions we're more likely to get a shot of the tank or the tarmac and only occasionally something of interest. therefore placement on the helmet would have to be looked at...... there mite be a sweet spot where we get a good view without any other crap in the way. i reckon if they had a series of them in certain places on the helmet you might be able to string a decent view together.
i reckon one of those camera from charlies angels would be awesome .. thee one that goes on their eyeballs like a contact lense ..... wwiiiiicccked.
Possible if they place it inside the helmet as they are starting to do in F1. If it were mounted outside the helmet I think the drag would be too much to be considered by most riders and teams.
i don't think a helmet cam would get to many more interesting shots than the cams they put on the bikes now. might provide a few interesting shots, but nothing more spectacular than u get now. i think the rider movin about & vibrations & all would make the pictures a bit to buzzy to be of value. but a mic in the helmet to listen to the riders talkin to themselves..... that would be priceless i think!
They tried that over here a few years ago. The shots were a bit on the blurry side but you didn't have to .... your head from side to side like you do with a static on-bike camera, the riders did it for you. I do remember some great footage.
Wouldmounting it in the helmet comprimised the strength of the shell? It's an intresting idea. I don't think mikes would be that good, I mean, I doubt riders talk that much while they're concentrating on the race.
