Yamaha’s own history page about the M1 states that they screwed up the 2006 bike and could only fix it far too late into the season.
If he doesn't have the pace to put a gap between himself and the other contenders, he WILL push over the limit and risk crashing. Some of them he'll save and others he wont.

I though Miller might have been a bit stronger given his pre season showing, but it is only FP1

I're reserved judgement on Miller with everyone saying he's going to be a regular top 5 this year, because of this exact reason. Redding was running in the top 3 in his first tests with Ducati and instagraming about how much he loved the bike, then the race season started.

Good point. FP2 take place around race time sunday. The track cools more overtime at night.
