Definition of stupidity: yamaha resigned an old 9 time washed up T-shirt seller than a proven YOUNGER up coming star.

Well its been known for teams to dump the failures, contract notwithstanding.

if a comparison to football/soccer is to be made, then Rossi would be Wenger and Yamaha would be Arsenal. Difference being that boppers don't want Rossi out and are content with endless mediocrity

True! But we are talking about yamaha here. Let's see if they grow a pair of balls & void flopsy contact at the end of 2018. Sign Zarco before HRC or other MFG signs him. Knowing how yamaha has chosen to do business in the last few years. I would not be surprised if they drop Viñales instead & keep the t shirt seller.

I'm not convinced that the choice is totally yamahas. DORNA want to keep Rossi racing no matter what.

That may be true because that brand choose to be a puppet. Dorna would have not tried that with HRC.

The links to statements from riders, the press etc. are all through this site. It's like being asked for the thousandth time to provide evidence that the earth is not flat.

Rohan is mad at Rossi because he used to send naked pictures of himself to Rossi and Rossi had to get a restraining order against him.

Links are somewhere on the forum, the search tool is your friend.

Yes and no.
If they look at how the KTMs performed, they would be a tad concerned about 2019.

Yes, another potentially great rider might end up never getting a truly competitive ie factory Honda or Yamaha ride.

I have to grudgingly give Dorna some credit, there has been more chance of riders beyond the 3 or 4 on those rides winning races if not titles in recent seasons. Both Red Bull and KTM are also fairly serious and successful Motorsport participants and must see some prospects for themselves in the premier class, and their GP effort is likely to be well funded, and maybe Suzuki will return to being able to win a title every decade or so as well. Ducati were nowhere pre-Gigi et al and have turned things round in a couple of seasons, although in Ducati’s case casual observers might conclude Dorna have actively hampered them for more than a few years.

Lets for arguments sake say that Rossi has a season like either 2011 or 2012, would they keep him then?
I don't think any team would on a factory bike when theres so much other talent around. After all Dorna can't do anything if yamaha grew a set and did dump him.

Maybe, but Ducati has done everything in their power to bend the rules. Registering their team as “Open class” and getting a one year head start on the spec ECU (and getting concessions) for one.

We have two privateers on the front row for today. One of them with frightening race pace that is good enough to win the race. The difference between factory and privateer teams have never been more blurred and factories are seeing the upside of providing the private teams with top level equipment.

A fan of racing should be delighted at this development.

i am sure evo9 is posting on crash.net with the pseudo PO9SEIDON

yeaaaah i am a fan of marvel, wouhouuuuuu, sorry ... looser

Different discussion of course but are these guys truly privateers?

I say this as they are both on factory bikes, both are contracted and paid riders in a field where in reality there are very very few bikes older than last seasons (Ducati about it).

Not trying to disparage at all but really, is privateer the right term (it may fit Abraham mind who is using his own family money) as well gone are the days when a person could buy and race these bikes (ala the privateer of the 500cc era).

I say this as I kind of look at Zarco and Petrucci and get disappointed in their performances if they are not near the top (Zarco moreso as IMO he is a far greater talent) where with privateers it has always been a case of if they get in the points they have done extremely well.

Meh, it may well be me and those olden day eyes again

That’s a fair point, I use the term “Privateer” in the sense that they have limited ability in influencing future roadmap of parts and development compared to factory riders. Zarco moreso than Petrucci of course.

The days of a true privateer are definitely gone. But I am definitely glad that the podium is no longer a duopoly.

As you went on to concede, the term "Privateer" is perhaps an anachronism in this class, but I nonetheless wholeheartedly agree with your point. We also have a Factory team that has regained its concessions - and yes, no doubt these are all positive developments.

I thought going into qualy yesterday a lot were sleeping on Marquez. All the times he set were on the medium while others had been running the soft for both race simulation and time attacks.

I would love to know why Yamaha were running the soft option in the simulation, they're still having the tyre wear issues and surely the soft is going to run out of grip late in the race.

Agree. Did you see Maverick run off-line yesterday? The amount of dust on the circuit is ridiculous and in excess of anything I've seen before. Track officials have quad mounted blowers to dispel most of this, but despite the cooler track temperature, the abrasive sand nonetheless makes durability a priority here.
