I have never gone online to criticise someone before, professional or otherwise, but today is different. Ignoring the controversy over BT taking over the UK MotoGP televising for a moment, I cannot wait to see the back of Cox and Parrish as MotoGP commentators. We have had to endure their awful brand of presenting for too many years, but today's Motegi show was the final straw. As usual the paid commentators were laps behind the viewer with what was actually happening. Cox felt it was OK to cough into the microphone not once, not twice but more than a dozen times throughout the show. Cox - professional commentators DO NOT cough on air. Parrish managed to reveal that Scott Redding had had a poor result before the race was shown - all for the sake of one of his crap one liners. Bloody amateur. All the suspense and most of the entertainment lost from that race then.

Bubble cars, armpits, foxes, hands and heels - it wasn't entertaining or funny the first time. The 100th time is enough to make you scream.

Goodbye. You've ruined your last season's racing. Don't come back. Ever.

I've posted these comments on this forum (and elsewhere) because I want to feel that they may be noticed and taken into consideration by the people that choose future commentator teams.

There - rant over. They'll be gone soon and it will all be OK.

I have never agreed with slagging people on line, it seems to be a new culture, but you are bang on with your post, well said.

Can I be the first to 'like' the OP - is there a 'multi like' function? Can we have one for this thread?

Spinoli, allow me to assure you that I have articulated your views on a face to face basis on several occasions to said 'commentary team'. At COT this year the BBC cameraman was filming  on the bank at Turn 1 and asked if we would participate. Willingly, we assured him, on the proviso that he told Cox that he was a complete ct. Peculiarly, the footage never made the final edit. When I boarded the same flight as them out of Austin, they merely scowled in recognition of the 'constructive' criticism levelled at them by multiple members of this forum at Laguna 2011.

EDIT: Just had a horrendous thought. They've not been signed up by BT Sport have they?

I particularly enjoyed Cox coughing whilst the screen was blank.

Another point to add about the pair, I honestly believe they bend over and fart on each others faces, then they proceed praise the smell.

J<span style="color:rgb(0,0,0);font-family:Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;OCKEYING FOR POSITION Presenters and commentators who add knowledge and colour to the television coverage of motorcycle racing whether on Eurosport or the BBC are already devoting a lot of their thinking time to next season. No, not which team will sign Cal Crutchlow but whether they themselves will be continuing their lives of status and luxury or joining the queue at BBC9. BT, having paid Dorna four times the amount of money they were getting from the BBC, is the broadcaster they all want to join - particularly those covering MotoGP for the BBC and Eurosport who will be out of a job. If odds were being offered, Steve Parrish would be a hot favourite. The ex-rider's incisive and humorous summaries are valued. Matt Roberts might be a good each way bet to join him but ex-saloon car racer, the Aussie Charlie Cox, looks like suffering the fate of his other fellow countrymen this year. That also goes for the other presenter whose name escapes me. But what of Eurosport's Julian Ryder, Toby Moody and Steve Day. Can BT accommodate Parrish and Ryder? Moody will go to other forms of Motorsport but Day is a rising star and is certain to find a berth either with BT or Eurosport which will be increasing its coverage of BSB and World Superbikes. That should cause the incumbent Eurosport home team to start examining their contracts. Dark horse in all this is Sky motorsport commentator, ex-racer Keith Heuwen. Sky, spending a fortune on F1, are cutting back on all other forms and BT are known to be viewing Heuwen favourably. The other unknown is BT's plans for the TT which they are considering televising live via the production company North One, which has produced the excellent ITV4 programmes. The really big unknown of unknowns is how many viewers BT will get for any of this. The one million plus audience attracted by the BBC looks to be in serious danger but, as Mr Ezpeleta might have said: "Think about the money!" - See more at:

Cox's constant cacophony of coughing is almost as annoying as my pathetic attempt at alliteration.  Glad to see the back of the two of them.

When I saw the thread title my first thought was arrabbiata1 started this thread.

Those two make the price of the motogp.com subscription worth it. ....... terrible.

If it's a budget commentator they're after then may I suggest resurrecting the career of Barry Nutley (Pete will also testify to this choice if only for comic value alone).  Where not the token Austrailian - almost a pre-requisite in mainstream bike coverage since the excellent Leigh Diffey - (I think when he departed WSBk the BBC attempted to pass off Cox as one and the same in the forlorn hope no one would notice). Nutley is nonetheless so dreadful, quite frankly I'd sooner listen to Barry J Taylor...at least he ticks the Aussie box.

Heuwen has long been rumoured for the job casting speculation of a possible reunion with Ryder. IMO, he's not that far removed from Parrish - minus the truck racing titles.

My ideal commentary team? To hell with any objections over pay for view - I'd remortgage the house to hear Rog and Jum in the box for a season.

keith and julian in the same sentence as parrish? wtf arrabi?

Have to say I have only ever watched the motogp on the BBC and the odd line they come out with is funny, my daughter is still chuckling at the 'hopping around like a frog in a sock' line from last race I have to say. On saying that I don't consider them particularly good, it comes to something when I'm the one sitting here correcting them. I am used to doing that when watching F1 over the years when we had James Allen and so on, but with motogp I shouldn't know more than those who are paid to describe it to me. Having said that, what I do know about the sport I learnt from the best, you guys here :)

So yeah, I won't miss them either, but I will miss the coverage.

Have you actually heard Keith Heuwen?

While a great many eulogise their fabled Sky WSBk partnership during the '90s I'm not so misty eyed over my recollections of this.

His BSB commentary was at times atrocious. Thank God Niall Mackenzie was present to salvage it.

Completely agree. I loathed the fact that the BBC appeared in 2008 to have secured the rights almost by accident - and seemed to be completely lost in the transition from WSBk. Even Suzi looked bewildered. That said, the package - when it is actually on - has greatly improved, Matt and Azi have been superb. It's a terrible shame that it is being withdrawn from 'terrestrial TV' and a huge marketing oversight.

I really can't understand why Cox and Parish are consistently such imbecilic buffoons in the commentary box. Their witless drivel. lack of any suspense or passion whatsoever combined with a total lack of insight belies the pedigree of Steve Parish and the analytical eye of Cox. Astonishingly, I am actually being serious. as a regular reader of Cox's excellent race coverage in the Times I am frankly bewildered as to why this obvious flair deserts him during his TV coverage. Perhaps it's ghost written by David Emmett.

yes, i just recently watched some 98 sugo and i have to say that although i don't find his commentating very appealing i  can't see how you could line him up in the same category as the intolerable dumbfucks that are cox and parrish.

had to watch the bbc coverage for japan , after the 100th coughing of cox my gf pleaded with me to wait till i could download another coverage cause even she couldnt take it (the uninformed and empty commentary coupled with cox inability to hit the button on the mic to mute it )anymore.

No matter what was shown on the screen just constant Hayden updates? Laughing every time Pedrosa gets passed?

"Hayden has just pulled a 1:37.015..... oh Pedrobot just got passed hahahahahahahaha I hate that .......anyway back to the action, Nicky is wearing his Easy Rider helmet and his back up leathers today, we're still trying to find out about the last minute leathers change...somebody just crashed up front...this is one of Nickey's best laps of the race, I feel like he's making up time in the 3rd corner of the first split, this reminds me of his 4th AMA race........"

No worries mate haha. I do however like in the 51st state so you're not that wrong lol

Well my views for what their worth.

I like Parish. When i met him at Laguna i not only told him i was a fan, i also told him i stick up for him while the haters .... talk him on ps. I was indeed pointing straight at Arrab when i said that. parish was actually a good laugh and latter in the day stitched the lot of us up while we were giving cox a hard time.

I didn't like cox but he has of late had the guts to pass comments on tv that are negative towards the running of the sport, Kudos for that.

I quite like Toby Moody but detest Julian Ryder.  I would like Jack Barnacle to commentate on motogp. To be honest i would be quite happy to watch the race without some gimp giving his opinions. Most of the ..... they say is what fans had already said 5 mins earlier. We have a joke in our house about it being bugged. It seems every time i say something its repeated on tv within minutes.

I don't say this too often (honest) but I reckon I could do a better job than Cox (I could never match Parrish's experience and inside knowledge).  Firstly I would research each race/circuit/rider/team and have a ....-load of facts on hand. Secondly I would be able to watch the TV monitors and actually articulate into words what I saw on the screen (something that I regularly do in advance of the existing BBC duo much to the annoyance of my wife).  Thirdly, I am able to string together a sentence without coughing my guts up like Cox does.  Fourthly, I'd take Azi out and show her what a good time really is (much to the annoyance of my wife).

Anyone on here willing to give me a good reference for the job?
