"Valentino Rossi believes Michelin’s previous tactic of flying in overnight special race tyres is proving the big handicap in his bid to fight against the formidable Casey Stoner, Ducati and Bridgestone package in 2007.

This year’s new premier class tyre restrictions took away a key advantage held by Michelin over rivals Bridgestone, with the French manufacturer no longer able to fly in special rubber made overnight for its riders including factory Yamaha rider Valentino Rossi.

The Italian, who is currently under investigation by Italian authorities over £40m tax evasion, blasted the new tyre rule after his crushing defeat in Laguna Seca last month, where Bridgestone once again humbled Michelin with another clean sweep of the podium.

Valentino Rossi, who returns from the summer break this weekend in Brno trailing Ducati rival Casey Stoner by a massive 44-points, said: “The problem is that the way of working that we had with Michelin was completely different with the tyres that they could make on the weekends. "

“That was a big handicap for us, because Bridgestone was already used to working in the way that is now needed. It seems that Bridgestone is working a little bit better.”

So basically he's moaning that Michelin dare let him take advantage of their offers.

HOW VERY DARE THEY!

So let me get this strait,Michelin is at a disadvantage because they dont have an unfair advantage anymore.Where on this planet does this make sense. Here is the truth, right now Bridgestone is building a better tire than Michelin and they are playing from the same deck, not a stacked deck in Michelin's favor.SHUT THE F%$& UP and get to work, dont expect the rules commitee to bail your ... out.

if you guys would actually read the (numerous) articles on the topic and specifically his quotes, he's not whining or moaning about anything.

in fact, he specifically says that michelin's tactic of overnighting tires was their downfall. it's the exact same thing you guys have been saying on these boards. but now, rossi is a whiner because he agrees with all of you?

instead of getting distracted by the shiny headlines, read the actual copy.

the reason why i feel hes coming accross and a whinging little ..... is because he has been through everything to try and explain him losing. At first the rule was great because everything was fair, then when it didn't translate to wins the rule was ruining the sport because they needed more tyres each weekend, and now its Michelins fault for giving him overnight tyres in the first place. If he keeps going at this rate i would predict he has given up on motogp and has started "excuses training" ready to move to F1 fully prepared in 2009.

LOL You guys are hillarious. Do some googling and you will find commentators, magazines and "experts" saying the same thing all the way from the pre season. And then we are talking specifically about the advantage taken away and become a disadvantage. It makes sense that dramtically changing the way they work, develop and select tires is a disadvantage when the competitor has basically been working the "new" way all the time. Does that make it unfair? no. Does it make it whining when Rossi point out what so many has doen before him? Only on MotoGP forum.

The Japanese build better cars and now they build better tyres too. Nothing new there guys. Now the EU (read French slobs) have to compete on a level playing field and they're complaining. This is a trend that F1 (WRC and SBK too) has gone through with the one tyre rule. It's coming to motogp too and it's the best way forward. Bid for the rights, show what you can do and may the best rider win.

I don't see where Rossi is complaining, I see Michelin getting their butts kicked by superior equipment. Perhaps they should go on strike like the French tend to do when things don't go their way?

I don't understand why Rossi was for the tire rule in the
preseason. If he truly was benefitting from a flown in
tire than he should have been opposed to it from the
beginning.
It makes no sense to me

Because basically, he didn't know how it will affect his races yet...The tyre rule was welcomed because it was a change, a reformation of some ideas or rules, it was deemed to make the championship more interesting, hence why he said it was good for the sport at the beginning.

But as the season progressed, he saw what the tyre rule is doing to his race. And so he gave us these explanations. Hence, why he was seen as "whinging".

if you take him at his word, Rossi said he thought the tire rule would help focus the setup during FP and QP on the bike. with the former rules, he said he felt that there were too many choices and it was taking focus away from the bike and they were spending way too much time on tires. ironically, in a sense, it did the exact opposite.

but you have to admire the guy in that he was willing to take a hit on a understood advantage that he had with michelin because he thought it would lead to more focus on non-tire issues. how many other riders would do that?

The new tyre rule wasn't actually Rossi's idea you know. He said it was a good thing because he thought that if the focus was moved to finding a setup whe would win more because he is the best, now he is starting to realize he is not the best and his story is changing almost every weekend. I'm not to bothered by it because they are just little press interviews, i just think its funny.

It's always funny to see Rossi fans come along as if he can say and do no wrong.

He's a human, he's bound to have faults, and cracking under pressure and complaining about rough races is one of them (Turkey).

Stop having a go at Tom because you've run out of rational defences for your 'God'.

Nobody forced Rossi to use overnight tyres, now he's whining that they let him do it, it's stupid coming from a 5x Champion.

Edited to satifsy the unhumoured.

Aww shut the .... up, atleast the guys I support actually have the ability to win them.

And being 250cc champ doesn't prove you better, but I'm not going to go into the points in a thread that isn't about that...and what would I expect being on a Moto gp website.

Some people.

Bieng 250 champ is more prestigious than WSBK or WSS champ?

don't be stupid

thats just like saying bieng the English Championship Champion (Division 1) is more prestegious than bieng the Spanish Primera Champion (Spanish Premiership)

That is by far the best austrailian post I have read in a while not counting 250 as a proper title... unbelievable!

As for ganging up on tom because Im defending my "god" not really no.. if he is saying rossi is whinging.. he is whinging about rossi whinging! if that make sense
