He rode most of the bikes at Valencia after the 2007 season ended. They didn't put it on this year though.

Did you not know that all the most knowledgeable of blind fans here have ridden 500s, 990s and 800s....?

I am sure a one or two have even won a title or two...so clearly our fellow forum member are far more qualified to opinionate and pontificate about Hayden ability to adapt than someone who used race 20year ago....

I don't think the argument is about gardner's stature in the sport, experience, qualification to judge other riders or even whether hayden is likely to do well on the ducati per se, but rather that several australian members most if not all of whom were fans of him as a racer have observed that his comments about most riders for the last 20 odd years have tended to be non-specifically negative.

Add to that one English one

I'm still a fan of the bigmouth bunt (that letter "b" again)

I ban't really say I agree with him but he does say what he thinks. I still like that, especally from and old bodger like Wayne. I imagine him as the really loud guy who upsets the nurses in the retirement home.

Twenty years ago. Sure, he rode the 800s at Valencia last season. He rode five bikes over the course of two days. Do you think he was sat in the garages for most of that time speaking to his techs setting up those bikes for the brief time he was allotted to ride them? He rode a bike using Stoner or Capirossi's setting and is basing his judgement of Hayden's adaptability to the bike on those settings. If Hayden were to simply show up and hop on Stoner's bike and not touch any settings, then sure, Gardner would be spot on.

It's not like he's Nicky Hayden, after all. There's a ton of guesswork involved in any case. This isn't quite Rossi telling Melandri that the Honda's an easier bike to ride that should be better for him after riding it and developing it for years.

Well, after only one day on the bike, and new tires also, he is already within a 1/2 sec or so of his fastest lap in the race yesterday....

today 1.33.960

fastest race lap 1.33.393

Not too shabby, FOR HIS FIRST DAY!

+1

Not to deflect from Haydens quite good first showing on the Ducati but has anyone considered the Bridgestones being a harder construction would suit him better over the long stints.

Seems like I saw in the quote that he only used two new tires on the first day, or was it only two new front tires? Anyway Nick will still be rough on the stones but they might get him further in a race before going away.
