Furusawa: I'd rather keep Rossi

HMM not sure its early for all this silly season talk maybe everyone is trying to get contracts tied up early

Pies.is tied up to a two yr deal i think so there's 3 spots at yam 1 tech .... & 2 at fiat in theory

Rossi has got to call it a day sometime,i cant see him being a teacher or team manager

so if he signs one more yr that still leaves a Colin/Horney seat up for grabs

i cant see Horney staying at fiat being in Rossi's shadow unless he wins it this year then he's in the bargaining seat

and what if he wants Rossi out.

I think Rossi will wait and see who signs what before he shows his hand and if he's not happy with it he'll just .... off to F1 for the £$ save some for his pension or Rally.

and if pies struggles this year what does yam do.they could end up with no Rossi.Horney or Colin

but will have takers wanting to get on the M1.

Rea.Crutchlow.Cammy.Haslam.?????

With all these Motogp riders being out of contracts this yr Manufacturers will want pen to paper asap imo

If Horhay beats Rossi straight up this year for the crown,Yamaha would be nuts to choose a rider in the twilight of his career over maybe the next great. If Yamaha indeed wants Rossi over Lorenzo, would they stack the deck against him this year to make their decision hold water. The Fiat deal was supposed to be a short term arrangement because Rossi was facing the prospect of entering the 07 season without a sponsor and one of the top dogs at Fiat is very close to Rossi. Do they call the shots on who they prefer to win and stay..

Rossi, stay put!!! Go 46 for two more in the bag and some 20 wins!!!

& Mention there's a Red team in another 4 wheeled sport they have interest in and the publicity would be out of this world for all concerned

before a single wheel had even turned

Furusawa is ...... He put his personal interest over the Yam`s. He will retire by the end of this year. Why does not he put his mouth shut and let the next person in line to handle?

The more he speaks about his support to Rossi, the more desperate he sounds. Maybe.. he is actually desperate because there are not enough Rossi lovers like him in Yam?

What happened to Shumi opened up the eyes of some of the Yam. He is now the Mercedes man. The racers do not care about the loyalty. They want to race and will abandon the loyalty over the opportunity to race. Rossi will do the same.

It's a hard call - but even if Lorenzo decisively beat Ross it this year - I think Yamaha would keep Rossi for two reasons:

1.Huge world-wide marketing value

2. Prestige (The Japanese are obsessed with prestige)

Very reasonable.

Furusawa may be speaking like that exactly because he's' retiring at the end of this season, so he's free to speak his own mind. It may be a kind of suggestion for the rest of Yamaha management, maybe trying to influence them. I have a feeling Jarvis would rather keep Jorge.

However, Jorge beating Rossi this year would be less decisive than it seems.

Stoner "decisively" beat Rossi in 2007, but that was not the end of Rossi. Whatever Lorenzo could do this year, it would hardly be the end of the story (unless Rossi retires). Nobody can rule out that Lorenzo beats Rossi (and Stoner) in 2010, but it can't be ruled out either, in that case, that Rossi comes back and wins in 2011. And/or 2012. One cannot be sure that Lorenzo will be capable to beat Stoner in the next 3/4 seasons either. Nobody has a crystal ball... And Rossi remains a very solid choice for another 3-4 years.

FIAT is there because of Rossi, of course, and would follow Rossi -- they wouldn't stay with a Rossi-less Yamaha.

Rossi has given Yamaha what they hadn’t got over a decade getting the best result they have ever had; Lorenzo has not given Yamaha anything like it! What’s your point?

Rossi gets all credits for Yams recent success?! He must know how to design the big bang engine and chassis, program computers, and electronics. So.. why doesn`t he move to Ducati and build his own bike there? Does not want to repeat what he did for Yam? If he knows all the secrets of building the best bike, it would not be difficult. Let old man Frusawa say anything he wants before he retires. At least he does not say “we” or “Yam”. Maybe, he needs to speak loud for the reason.

(1) He has a hunch that Rossi is seriously negotiating with Ducati. Or

(2) He need to assure Rossi that he is behind him because he is not as popular as the fanboys want to believe and Jarvis and Nakajima are in the other side of the garage.

Yes, but Stoner and Rossi were not teammates vying for alpha dog status on the same team. Quite a difference if you ask me. Rossi is a master manipulator and he is starting to realize that Jorge can steal his thunder. What does he do, he starts a campaign to exile his his nemesis to another bike. Why, its simple. If Jorge beats him on the same equipment, there can be zero excuses and the fan will realize the torch has been passed. If he is successful in exiling Jorge to another team, it will give him at least another year to set on the throne while Jorge settles into a new team. And even if he loses to Jorge on another bike, the better bike excuse is always available and the masses will take it and run with it.. Remember, in racing, the first thing you have to do is beat your teammate.

What a big support for Rossi. He is telling this to Rossi, that he is ready to put Goerge aside if that's what Rossi wants.

a Very nice thing to say in support of your best driver, but i dont know if that will be the right thing for them to lose Lorenzo. But anyway it seems they have to choose between them, because of Rossi's pressure.

I hope Rossi changes his Idea and say he doesn't mind to race beside Horhey for a few years more. That way we are going to see more battles.

Stupid Yamaha, they just killed their negotiating leverage. If anything they should say it will be a wait and see process. And now that Nicky has developed a ridable bike, we will see a realistic bid war by Ducati. We all know Rossi will end up staying at Yamaha, and this just gave him the tool to ....-can his teammate. We all know despite Ducati being a much improved machine, Rossi will be too chickenshit to switch to Ducati if Lorenzo stays with Yamaha (the best bike on the grid even without the supposed aid of looking at Ross's data); add to this Lorenzo will probably be unbeatable on it save Stoner.

Silly remark… Rossi gave Yamaha ‘Direction’ and Results. Which seems to be exactly what Honda lack of since Rossi left!

That's quite correct Povol -- losing from your teammate is two times bad for a rider; still, losing it one year does not mean that one cannot win it back the following year. Especially when one is named Valentino Rossi. And as far as "excuses" go, there can always be and there will always be something that can be used as excuse -- crashes, DNFs, misterious illnesses, electronics, sabotage by the tyre manufacturers, sabotage by the factory favoring your teammate -- whatever,

But in the end, all this is very much our way of thinking. We kind of project our own psychology on these fantastic top riders. But I'm pretty sure Rossi (just as Lorenzo or Stoner) is not so worried and is not preparing "excuses" in case of defeat: these guys are all pretty confident they can, and will, win, until proof to the contrary is given. They give up only after the last flag... And they are all convinced to be the best. They wouldn't be where they are otherwise.

what you said in the beginning..... this is our way of thinking.... and if somebody thinks of an excuse before he even begins, then he has already lost, i think.

i like reading your posts J4rn0. i agree with most of what you say. you seem to know a bit more i guess.

When it comes to Rossi and his fans, there is always an excuse. It hasnt happened but twice, but for each there was an excuse, from Rossi and his fans.

Well that makes 2 excuses out of 10 Championships, because a 2th place Rookie is also Great!

Much less than 3 excuses out of 4 so far!

Oh, let's be fair. Rossi is not so special nor so different from any other champion.

When it comes to any rider who loses, and any fans (...especially the fans!) there is always an excuse.

Afterwards.

But normally, among real champions, there are no prehemptive excuses. I'm not hearing any so far: all the top three (Rossi, Stoner, Lorenzo) are saying their bike is great, their team is great, they are feeling great and confident to win.

So, let's enjoy the battle
