Formula 1 2010 season

I enjoyed the race. It was interesting to see how Jenson's gamble would pay off and if Alonso could nurse the F10 home. Jenson is a smooth driver, easy on tires. But when the track temperature is around 130F, no smooth driving is going to make them last 50 laps. Especially a soft compound. I really felt for Alonso, that was a superb drive that he really deserved more from.

Yea, I almost felt sorry for Fred.  The onboard audio was pretty brutal - the engine revs were all over the place as the transmission jumped from one random gear to the next.  I wonder if the borked transmission managed to zing the motor to death with an ill-timed downshift?

It was interesting to see how the tires behave.  Whatever the compound, fresh tires grant the driver about 7~10 golden laps, during which the extra grip makes passing possible.  After that, it's back to parade mode.  Managing the your track position makes all the difference when determining when to pit.

I still don't understand quite how Ferrari and Mac convinced themselves to stay in the pits during the first ~10 minutes of Q.  What a fiasco!   Glad to see Vettel finally drag the fragile RB across the line.

<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE (Geonerd @ Apr 4 2010, 11:05 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}><div class='quotemain'>I 'watched' about half the Sepang race via live timing.  I had high hopes that Button's early stop might pay off again.  For a while he was looking good; picking up several positions as those ahead pitted.  But by mid race the tires started to fade and he (like everyone else) was going nowhere.

I'm debating whether or not to DL the race. From reports, it sounds like a waste of bandwidth.

it is. don't dl it

It appeared that the engine let go after Alonso had recovered from running too deep. It was as if as soon he got back in it, the thing went away. The transmission glitch sounded pretty brutal for the entire race. I'm no expert on F1 nor am I an engineer, but I believe these engines are built to run a pretty precise spectrum of revs and operations. The constant dropping into neutral and back into gear, I'd imagine, do not fall into that spectrum. I'd assume that issue, if not resolved eventually, is terminal.

Thanks anyway, but I bit on the hook, once again. Fortunately, it wasn't NEARLY as dull as Bohrain - there was some decent racing here and there.

somehow glad i didn't watch it
<
roll on to the next race and i dare hope for some action

anyway, re: hosing down the track... around 4years ago, i was constantly emailing a star sports columnist (theo liasi if anyone of you guys know him), and this is exactly what he has been suggesting all along...

add sprinklers on the track so that we can have a wet race every time, which was the only way, we figured, that we can have a fantastic race to watch...

Man apparently I can't type properly! I meant: Sorry, M. As in: Sorry from Mick!!!

Interesting season so far, i'm loving it. Already getting tired of people bitching about how F1 needs to change blah blah blah, its been relatively good this year and the people saying those things are watching the wrong sport anyway. Its a shame.

Alonso seems to be conducting himself in a very mature and balanced way this year, he is in a good position and is doing an excellent job of making himself a figurehead of the sport. Meanwhile we are told not to panic about Schumachers so far unremarkable comeback. At least he's been fairly solid, i'm gonna give it at least half a season before i decide either way about that.

The real story is Button already justifiying his decision to leave Brawn and go to Mclaren, i think Lewis will come out on top in the end but its exciting to see his cage rattled a bit already. Hopefully redbull have learnt (better late than never) how to build a car, but i fear if it does hold together Vettel might be somewhat unstopable. Early days yet, i didn't expect this new points system to keep everyone so close, 3 winners in 3 races lets hope we get a 4th next time out

Solid post. I though Alonso would have made some sort of a terminal mistake with his ailing Ferrari in trying to defend in the dying laps, but he drove a great race. Really too bad about the failure.

Like you said about Schumacher, it's still very early. But Rosberg has outshone him each time out thus far and I haven't seen any Schumacher-of-old driving at any point yet. I think he's past it.

The two biggest story lines for me are the battle at McLaren and whether Red Bull can keep the car going. Just like you said. The champion will come from one of these garages, I'm just not convinced whether it'll be Vettel, Hamilton or Button just yet.

RULE BRITANIA!

Hahaha, another brilliant mixed condition race from F1 2010. Things are alreaday shaping up well and there is so long to go still. Who's have guessed Jenson would win two races before Lewis won any? The Mclaren battle is so fascinating, especially with the two drivers having such different approaches taking them to such similar positions. As long as one of them is in the hunt come the end i'll be chuffed. Alonso continues to impress, and his cheeky move on Massa coming into the pitlane was hilarious! RedBull looked a young team today, they have everything in place but it isn't coming together quite right just yet. I think it will though. Can't wait for the next one, even though we have to wait 3 weeks for the most boring race of the year!

Was working at the circuit all weekend, so it was cool to get free entry into the main stand on race day. The mixed conditions made it more interesting, thought Rosberg was holding his own rather well at the start, saw Alonsos blatant jump start, and some good close overtaking on the first corner. If Vettel had not been dumped out on the first lap, I think he would have given the Mclarens a good battle.

great race! man. looks like He wants to watch some great f1 racing too. Make it rain every round

congrats JB. JB and Clarkson are the two most awesome guys of england
