<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE (Orrmate @ Mar 14 2008, 04:40 AM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}><div class='quotemain'>That session wasn't quite as intriguing as the first, Hamilton it seems was the only one of the front 4 to run on low-fuel, the rest concentrated on longer runs. Good to see Webber in second though, seems its in fact Red Bull who are slotting into third rather than Williams.

Still no real answers I don't think though on the Ferrari - McLaren front. I reckon Qualifying will be the first true indication of the pace.

I think LH did a Q3 run, from what I've read.

Nice to see the cars back.

Agreed. Much better looking after losing most of those bar codes.

You mean, you want Kimi's Ferrari!!!

Look who's becoming a Ferrari fan boy now!!

I quite liked it with the barcodes. I was wondering about this though, does it mean Marlboro are no longer sponsoring them? The deal they had meant they could run the brand colours (the barcodes, which it did at the launch) but that was it, and it was pretty controversial in light of the EU ruling. I wonder if the rules have been tightened a bit more.

Oh nooooooooo!!! Kimi had some kind of problem

So, here goes the ''strong'' start to the season. I might as well go to bed now..

If that is how they are going to run qualifying then I take back my statement about it being interesting. Q1 & Q2 were ok then wtf happened?
No one really looked interested in getting pole except for Hamilton and the 2 (was it BMW) drivers?
That was ridiculous - and all the fuel regulation - what's that all about? To a casual observer I have no idea what they were trying to accomplish!

I stayed up until 05.00 in the morning just to realize that qualifications started at 04.00

what the hell happened to kimi???

Q3 is a shambles because Max Mosley thinks that teams should have to qualify with the fuel load that they carry for the race. In other words, it completely destroys the point of qualifying, as the fastest man doesn't always get pole.

I wish I knew the reason for this rule, but I don't. Apart from the fact that Mosley is a meddling git.

Well done Honda for making at least some progress, more please..

Yes, it was Kubica (who's a BMW driver). He could have taken pole if he didn't run wide, but if's don't count. Great start for Hamilton, and also for Heikki. I think they can go for a 1-2 tomorrow.
Not sure what to expect from the Ferrari drivers. Well, Kimi has to overtake a lot of people, which should be interesting. I think we will see more overtakings anyway, cause of the TC ban. Massa might be a bit heavy on fuel, cause he's almost 0.5sec slower than Lewis. Or maybe he was just slow, I can't tell. BMW made some progress, but I think, in the race, it won't be enough. They are definitely the 3rd team at the moment. Renault isn't even close!!! What a disappoinment, but..lets wait and see what will happen.

btw, dont try to figure out what they are trying to accomplish, just watch it!!!

I think Massa might be on a one stopper, which will certainly make things interesting. The pre-season form suggested that although they were pretty equal on qualifying pace, Ferrari were better on race pace. So they could have a few tricks up their sleeve tommorow.

If he isn't on a one stopper, and was geniunely 0.5 off Hamilton on pace alone, then it's time for Ferrari to start worrying.

As for the race, I reckon it's gonna be awesome. I don't think it'll be plain sailing for the McLaren's, as theres no doubt it'll be a race of attrition with the amount of mistakes we've seen from drivers over the weekend. I honestly wouldn't be suprised if Kubica nicks it from Hamilton. Apparantly BMW smashed the lap record at Valencia in testing, but didn't publically reveal it. They've been playing mind-games.

Well this race certainly isn't going to change my mind. How long for the first pace car? About 30 seconds!! 5 retirements on the first lap?
Some of the stupidest driving and overtaking moves I've seen - have these guys been watching NASCAR?
Like I said lots of pitstops, lots of pace cars, lots of not much is happening at all - and millions of dollars wasted!!!

You gotta do better than this to convince me.

Mclaren looks strong. Congrats to Lewis, who was in charge all race!!
What a strange race it was!! So many DNF's!!!

I'm too tired to make a big analysis at the moment (cause I didnt sleep all night!!)
<

Just wanted to say: SHAME on Raikkonen!!! What a terrible race. I mean...he did some good stuff, he had a great start, he didn't drive defensive, BUT..those two mistakes he made, made him look like a rookie!! The champ needs to do better next week.

To people who think Ferrari is still better...I don't think so. McLaren is really strong. Of course we cant tell how good Ferrari is after this race, but I don't think they are dominant at all. And anyone who thinks Kimi will have a walk in the park this season is wrong. Lewis couldn't have wished for a better start to the season, winning the race, and Ferrari scoring ZERO points.

I hope Malaysia will be better.

Eventhough I'm not happy with Kimi's performance, I am happy that the season finally started!!

Off to bed now...I neeeeed my sleep.

The F1 guys drove as though they had been watching the V8 supercar races and decided to emulate them. Overtaking by punting the opposition off the track mid-corner may sometimes work in V8 supercars and nascar but has never to my recollection been an effective tactic in F1.
