Estoril testing

Interesting that a few of you can find positive stuff to say about everyone including Rossi but only find something negative to say about Stoner who is right up there at the front and a clear margin ahead of those at the front. Wonder why there are continual battles on the forum?

Are there any pics?

Krop is there any specific info on the changes to the Ducati? Swingarm? Exhaust? If these are not as we saw on the alleged GP12 then I need to make an apology so may as well get it out of the way sooner than later.

Wow huge surprise from Cal, great job especially with the injury. Anytime a new guy beats CE it gives me some hope for GP. I use CE as a bench mark for the talent needed to stay in GP. Good job and I don't know to much about him but I know what it's like to have a guy from the same place as you do good, so I hope he picks up a bunch of fans over across the pond. It looks like you guys have a legit competitor on your hands, congrats!

Jlo consistent as usual, to bad Yam didn't have anything in the engine department and I wonder if they'll even bother with it this year. Spies, I can only hope there is something going on that we don't know about, but you aint lookin good.

Pedro you deserve the time off, Stoner no surprise there I'm sure he'll still be getting pole positions at other tracks, Dovi say good bye to Repsol.

Ducati you are still horrible and to far off the pace, you're lucky Rossi can put in so many laps near his Qualy times.

I think Super Sic is eventually gonna steal some points and turn this years WC into year long fight.

According to Spalding, and this is something I don't think I've read in the forum yet but figured it was more suited to this thread, Rossi had the electronics and new chassis all weekend. This would explain why Hayden was mobbed by 10 people getting feedback from him today. They already got a race weekend's worth of data from Rossi, and Nicky managed to go just as quick by noon. Unfortunately, as he improved 1.1 seconds today, the fastest guys improved 1.4.

That is interesting, I was thinking Nicky improved so much due to him not showing much in FP1 then being robbed of the dry time he needed with the damp track. I wonder if Rossi was given additional parts to test today with him doing so many laps. It gives me hope for Nicky that there may be more parts for him if they do have Rossi ahead of him in the testing schedule this much.

Austin, I'm sure both Rossi and Hayden will take it. Baby steps......from Rossi's quote's it sounds like they are on to something, so lets see if they can carry that into the next venue. Sounds like now when they turn a wrench they actually get the result they were trying to achieve which IMO is a good thing.

Sic & Vale seem to be doing well. I demand an investigation into advantages of tall lanky riders.

Hawkdiver, is Nicky's race results still "disappointing" or do u now believe me that hes being ...... out of results?

Anyone seen the long run times yet? Were some trying the new rubber and not others?

I've read that they were all given the chance to use the new rubber and it appears that all the fast guys liked the new tires. From what I've read Sic, Stoner, and Rossi were all using them for their fastest laps. I haven't heard if Cal or Jlo was on them for their fastest laps or if Pedro had a chance to use them with his early departure. Jlo has also said to expect engine updates at or after mugello.

I have alot of thought on Nicky so this might be long.

I think Nicky did good because his bike was giving him problems but he is the #2 so I wouldn't expect any miracles just yet. The thing I see with Nicky is that he takes so long to set up the bike, I'm not sure if it comes down to him, the bike, or his crew? I'm not making excuses for him but it was a rough weekend, he needs a lot of time to set the thing up and this weekend he just didn't have it, mechanical problems then a wet track on top of him already needing so much time to get it right. I think even if they can't get the bike on line with the competition if they can at least get it easier to set up we'll see Nicky making huge improvements. I want to go back and see if Nicky has a history of being slow to set up his ride. This makes me think about his previous comments about when he rode for Honda and stated that they just give you the bike and you ride it. Supposedly the Honda was never highly adjustable and it didn't need a lot of set up. I'm not sure if Honda is still like that but it was like that during his time and I wonder if that has handicapped him in a way. It pisses me off to know he could of ended up with JB if Honda hadn't ruined their relationship with him by dragging their feet after Rossi left. JB was ready to start developing with a new #1 rider and Honda took forever to decide who that was going to be, not to mention the goofy way they wanted to develop the bike. The rest is history and poor Nicky was .... on, the story of his GP career right. On the right bike I still think he's the fastest American in GP. As far as Rossi getting the new chasis before the race started I'm not so sure, the guy has so many rumors around him it's crazy and it can go either way. He came out like gang busters in FP1 so he was on the new chassis, or he didn't see much improvement from throughout the weekend and qualied lower so he was still on the old chassis? It can go either way I think but why would he ride so many laps today if they didn't have a reason for him to. Nicky did seem happy today so my fingers are crossed. According to Rossi we are going to see a quicker gearbox and something with a swingarm that offers more lateral feel and rear grip in the near future. If Nicky did already smoke an engine he should be the first Ducati rider with the new smoother engine so that's a plus. Another plus I see is that these guys are both saying the parts Ducati are delivering so far have been good, in the past Casey and Nicky seemed to give mixed reviews of new parts, remember the swingarm and switching forks around. If I want to get crazy optimistic, maybe Nicky had gearbox problems because he was testing the new one! What I don't see is Rossi having a negative impact on Nicky's career.

After a great season start Stoner is starting to look like he's maybe losing it - always has somebody to blame, whinge about and now he has a pain in his arse.

You sound like a broken record my friend ....ever heard the saying if you cant say someting nice about someone dont say anything. Every single post you have a moan about him.

And you say Stoner is a whiner....oh the irony

This seems to contradict who you are saying is whose test ...... I thought Nicky tested for Rossi not Rossi testing for Hayden.

what's your take on stoners weekend then squigs? Towing and all

Edit: wrong place!!

How about Cal in this test!! Wow am i impressed. He has already surpassed my modest expectations this season and looks like he might actually be able to make a career for himself in the top class, i'm looking forward to seeing if he goes any better on the tracks he knows... In fact, i want Silverstone tickets

Didn't look so bad in the race either and can surely only improve. It looks like he might have it. At least he is assaying it young; apart from anything else I think james toseland's entry ro motogp was too late.

Nah Nah Squiggie,

you are being more than a little myopic - yes in most recent posts I have not been complimentary of Stoner. However, if you can get over your short term attention span - you would see that I have described him as an "indisputably good rider", praised his style at Aragon and PI to recall just some of my "nicer" comments about him. Oh and I do believe that I have also tipped him for 2011 WC #1

It appears that most of the improvement of lap times is down to the tires that Bridgestone brought to the test. I found it strange that the dry qualifying time last Saturday did not come anywhere near the dry qualifying time from 2009, and in the dry race, lap times were way off from 2009.Now with new rubber for the test, times are back down to 2009 level. Im obviously using 2009 because 2010 was wet. It almost seems like Bridgestone introduced a new tire at Estoril race from what they have been using. What else would explain the full second difference between 09 Q and race times compared to 2011

Yeah, from what I've read the new chassis is a lot more predictable with regards to changes. They can make a change and it will respond as they predict it will, versus the old chassis which seemed to be, for lack of a better word, unpredictable.

San Carlo Gresini team has stepped up and earned that factory support.

That team has had factory support on and off since 2003, well 2003-2006 and 2009-present. I believe in 2007 and 2008 they weren't given any special treatment, and in 2009 they had to pay extra to get the factory kit to put Elias on. But in 2003 HRC gave them factory kit and support for Kato, which was transferred to Gibernau, which was transferred to Melandri for 2006. And Simoncelli has had the factory kit since he came on the scene. It's a good setup and a good team.

I didn't have a chance to read Kropotkin's report on the tests last night, came back from Oulton at 11, watched Estoril and fell asleep. But I read it today and he doesn't seem to think Rossi was on the new chassis until yesterday. Just food for thought.

Quote from Spies' about the test

"It's been a decent day of testing for us after what happened yesterday. We started over today and I've been happy with the sessions. We learned something later on this afternoon which I think is really going to benefit us in Le Mans that we haven't been able to try before now. There was a good lap time improvement today, I did the best I could with what I had so I'm looking forward to Le Mans to start fresh."

I did the best I could with what I had.

Anyone want to speculate, J4rno??

Totally agree I have been well impressed with cal so far, really hope he can keep it going!

Its also nice to see simoncelli fast and totally piss on any weight limit issue just hope he can start to stay on and get some results to go witht the speed!
