Ducati is on the market again

Italian media reports that the Managing Director of Investindustrial acknowledged that the exclusive period for VW had expired, and said that Ducati has other interested parties. He also suggested that VW may only buy a portion of the business if their deal is consummated.

Valentino Rossi's buddy, Fiat heir Lapo Elkann, has said that he'll buy Ducati to keep it from transferring into the hands of non-Italians.

According to Superbike Planet Reuters is reporting that VW/Audi has purchased Italian motorcycle manufacturer Ducati for $1.12 billion.

Uh oh! Piech is a superbike fan!!

$200M to be worn by Audi ............ thats half a honda gearbox!!

Ducati decsribed as a 'tarnished brand.

but it looks like Ducati will survive at least ........... good news.

It was reported sold to VW through its Sport Car group Audi for 860 million euros plus undertaking 200 million euros of Ducati Debt...Maybe they can sell one of it rider too to repay the debt.....

Meh, I don't think they will get their money back. Especially since the last Ducati models I got from Aldi were like about $5AUS.

thats a turnover of only $200,000! a year.

Obviously some Eyetalyun bluster going on there.

Common Eyetalyan translation mistake ......... Eyetalyans always misplace an "a" in the wording of a sentence, then as if to compensate they place it at the back of the sentence, as well as a few others anywhere for good measure ...........

What should have read:

"Fiat heir Lapo Elkann, has said that he'll buy "a" Ducati to keep it from transferring into the hands of non-Italians."

was translated in Eyetalyun as:

"Fiat"a" heir Lapo Elkann"a", has"a" said that he'll"a" buy"a" Ducati to keep"a" it"a" from"a" trans"a"ferring"a" into the hands"a" of "a" non-Italians"a" "

Then re-Englisheyez'd with Google translate, the "a"s are dropped off. There's no a in google.

Its only mentioned Ducati multiple WSBK champion ....and no mention of Motogp WC..

Telling?

Suppo, Pernat, Checa, the FMI have all been asked to make comment on the new arrangement ( also telling? ) ...... all see nothing but positives for Ducati ....... same here, I was actually quite worried for Ducati ...... but I think they will be fine and get over the Rossi fiasco in good shape.

"Ducati, which has won 13 rider's Superbike World Championships since 1988, will extend Audi's long-standing rivalry with Bayerische Motoren Werke to superbikes."- from reuters.

Of course the new owner (VW-Audi) would like to see result. VW sure has a lot of cash available to pay Stoner for 2014 MotoGP ride for Bologna squad. But if the owner only interested in go-show , they might extend VR contract with discounted pay.....

Went for a ride today up to a local cafe in the mountains. There noticeably quite a few parked Ducatis there, an Audi pulled up and parked near all the Ducatis ......... gave the Ducatistis a bit of a laugh as they said that was ok for him to park there. Perhaps the Audi influence is a good thing

Question: what do you get when you take out the TC from a Ducati?

Ans. A bike Stoner can ride and ......... Audi.

Maybe you are onto something V5

I guess VW-Audi-Ducati make sense we will see more good marriage in the future once this "Euro Fiasco"

"Ducati, which has won 13 rider’s Superbike World Championships since 1988, will extend Audi’s long-standing rivalry with BMW to superbikes. “As a sporty, global premium brand, Ducati is an excellent fit for Audi,” the company’s chief Rupert Stadler said.-Saudi Gazette

" We need to have a quality rider in Ducati MotoGp to have superiorities over Honda and Yamaha "

Gabriele Del Torchio, Ducati president and CEO, referred to Rossi's comments as 'letting off steam'.

But there's no doubt that the seven time MotoGP champion, seventh overall with one podium during his debut season at Ducati, needs to see tangible progress with the Desmosedici project sooner rather than later.

Fun has always been a key racing ingredient for Rossi and losing week-in, week-out on a bike that doesn't seem to respond to his changes isn't much fun.

Ducati can point to a constant stream of modifications, based on Rossi's feedback, since the start of 2011 as proof of their determination to return The Doctor to the top. The fact that Rossi was beaten by other Ducati riders at Qatar also complicates the situation.

"When Ducati was regularly winning, with Loris Capirossi (990cc) and then Casey Stoner (800cc), it was the differences in its motorcycle design that were hailed as the key to its success (tyres, engine, frame)"

The same view is now working in reverse, with the Desmosedici's main features being compared with those of its Japanese competitors, and the differences branded as faults.
