Disappointment at Casey Stoner
MotoGP

23 June 2008 18:00

I was upset to hear Casey Stoner was angry with British supporters for the booing he received on Sunday after his win.

I was there for the whole three days of MotoGP and was really disappointed in Stoners behaviour towards Marco Melandri.

Marco may not be doing well but I think Stoner should start behaving like Melandris team mate instead of shaking his head in anger towards him.

After all, it's meant to be a team effort at Ducati.

Let's hope if Stoner shows more team work like Colin Edwards does with James Toseland then he will stop being booed and be seen as the champion he is
<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE <div class='quotemain'>Gixxer Bob says

Stoner

On the way to the podium Stoner was asked by the circuit commentator to comment on his excellent win, and instead of giving an answer, he complained that he was "given the wnker sign and booed" and that "I don't know what I've got to do to be accepted here". Well, he was roundly applauded by the crowd where I was standing, and probably every other part of the circuit, so if a few prats choose to boo, Stoner should just ignore them and stop being so precious.

i did not see stoner shaking his head at marco altho a stoner fan i respect on this forum commented on it so thats good enough for me as proof.
how can he treat his team mate like this then have the front to complain about a few ....oys. has he forgotten his time on the LCR already ? how would he have felt ? im very disappointed in the ....oys and stoner

If you watch the last few minutes of the Q session Stoner sets another crushing fastest lap while going over the finish line at the exact same time as Melandri. Melandri was 3 to 4 seconds slower per lap and Stoner clearly looked him and shook his head in disgust/disbelief and it was a good closeup by the camera man. Melandri is unbelievably slow on the same machinery and Stoner is clearly not able to understand why considering it is working so well for him.

I can't see that Stoner owes Melandri anything they are both on the same equipment and it is what it is. One guy is untouchable and the other gets beaten by a guy like Spies with all his first time out .... going on. It is becoming laughable and I have much respect for Melandris potential but I'm sure a guy on a 250 could beat him.

and that gives stoner the right to poke his nose in and mock melandri ? wtf did it have to do with him. what does he think he owns the team now ? it just shows how stuck up and childish stoner really is imo.

Yup thats the MO i saw it....Marco wasn't even on the racing line...

You never know what is said or what goes on behind closed doors. My guess is that Melandri turned in his wings (aka a Top Gun move). I think that he has lost his edge and basically at a team meeting Ducati expressed their will for Marco to keep trying his best, which he is obviously not doing. So in turn, Casey has much love for Ducati and wants to support them if sides are to be taken therefore the WTF is going on with you gestures.

What will happen to Marco will be very interesting

Like him or not, but no one can blame him for not being a fighter. For better or worse he is a fighter.

And Povol, be carefull for what you ask for. JLo could easily take away points from Stoner and Pedrosa too.
Imagine three similar senarios: JLo in a neck to neck fight with one other rider, Stoner, Pedrosa and Rossi. What odds would you give the three senarios?

You will notice i said he would more than likely win more races. Its not like i said he was going to lay down. The question is,will he put it on the edge risking 25 points in a battle with Stoner with 2 laps to go, and lets say a 1/2 second behind and Pedro is in 3rd.Does he push it for the win or does he settle for beating Pedro and losing 5 points.

I must have been surrounded by the "few" that did boo, because it seemed quite loud & strong to me, & certainly more than a minority. To be honest I think they were booing his attitude rather than his racing, he came straight up to the mike...& started whinging, no little irony there. & What struck me more than anything else, is that he was so preoccupied by being booed, & gestured at, that he didn't even seem to have the time of day for anyone that did come to support him, not even a word of thanks. Which in my opinion should have been more important.

That's not to justify anything of course, he still rode at 200mph & didn't put a wheel wrong. Personally I clapped him over the line, & would have clapped him on the podium but I was taking pics. I had a great day, wish I could afford to go to Assen.

I love this kind of stuff (not having a go Roger, using your commens as an example only) as it is all based on assumption, lack of knowledge of any background circumstances and often ones own bias or prejudice.

If MM or any other rider took exception to some 'shaking their head' at them, then really the need to go play another sport. It is something you see week in and week out at race meetings of many different statures.

As for mocking, well who really knows whether it was intended that way as there have been no ongoing reports of this action nor any reports of any lead up activity that may have led to it. For all that we know, MM and CS may issues that go back further than one corner at any given race.

Personally, I would fully expect CS to be getting very frustrated at the lack of support being provided by his team-mate in terms of results and/or his team-mate's ability to take points of the opposition (by the way. team-mate used very loosely in this text).

Does any of this justify any derogatory remarks or actions aimed at another rider? Well IMO no, but then I don't believe that what occurred was anything out of the ordinary for most riders of this level, just that it being CS brings it to the attention (given the media dislike in some circles).

Whether CS is childish or not is an individual's perogative and up to their perception, but would say he is no more childish that a person who can't get results so walks away or quits, or kicks his bike when things don't go right, or somene who gives the ...... signal to make them feel tough.

As for the race itself (after all, this discussion is about the race), IMO it was very much 'normal service resumed' as the top three (CS, VR and DP) in the championship battled it out, only the finishing positions changed. eing honest I was pleased for West to get some sort of result but he is now at circuits where he has ridden the MotoGP bike before so the reslts should be better. CE is starting to look a bit more consistent while the others, were, well, others.

But two mentions.

Toseland - bad luck but sht happens. How often do we see a rider at their home GP do exactly what JT did? Big credit (and do mean big credit) for dusting himself off, remounting and riding around to try to see what happens. Lesson learnt and respect earnt along with it.

Spies - a lot of hoopla which grew stronger with his Qualifying position and maybe raised expectations further. A good result even if he finished lower than I thought he would and a lesson that will no doubt server him well for later races. Still a way to go before I (and likely others get the feeling that he belongs, but a definite pass mark nonetheless.

rossi knows 2nd and even thirds for the rest of this season will win him the champioship.

no one else can podium other than pedrosa and stoner.

Rossi will only settle for second if the win is impossible, he will win more races with that attitude.

Estoril 2006, Rossi vs. Elias. Rossi could have settled for second to safely take the points but fought Elias hard in the last few corners to get beat at the line by something like 0.002 seconds. Rossi's a winner.

Snooze of a race. Just the way it is these days, guess we have to get use to it.
1. No surprise from Stoner, dominated the weekend.
2. Rossi showed his class, reminded Pedro.08 'unless you lead the first lap, no win for you'
3. Pedro.08 grew one nut passing Rossi.
4. de Puniet didn't crash, amazing!
5. melandri sucks arse

Stoner needs for Rossi to have a dnf or very sub par performance (12th or worse) for him to cut into his lead significantly. Still no wet race yet. that will be Stoner's chance to pull back a few more points on both DP and VR.

Don't know what people expected from Spies but I thought he did well. A good replacement for a number of back markers (see 5). Congrats to Scott Redding, a great talent that will hopefully continue to receive support from sponsors based on his results, much like Pablo Nieto

Good racing this weekend. 600's at Misano, woohoo!
