Answers on a postacard!

what do you think, I know motosport is a very male dominated sport, but what would a female gp rider bring to the sport?

Me thinks, plenty of media coverage & sponsorship!

I can only think of that 250 rider, katija Pog something that has competed in the top end of bike racing...........anyone got any others?

It isn't necessary, if the girl was a top 10 or top 5 rider then it would bring all sorts of media attention. I mean look what Danica Patrick has brought to the IRL, she is mentioned on ESPN's Sports Center all the time. That Pog girl or whatever her name was, perhaps I'm thinking of someone else, but she was a regular 250 rider and lost her ride and had a wild card ride in Germany, sure enough the story made Sports Center. I just don't get it, some girl who wasn't good enough to keep her ride in the 250 class gets a wild card ride for one round and ESPN reports on it but Valentino Rossi wins four, soon to be five, consecutive premier class titles and is on the verge of being considered the greatest man in motorsports history and has never once been on ESPN. Either way, MotoGP doesn't need a woman, they have one of the biggest celebrities in sport. But a woman wouldn't hurt things.

ben you asked"what could women bring to the sport"
how about some shopping or they could bring the beer
<

oh sorry i see what you mean
<

i dont think a woman would suceed in GP as they are missing one thing TESTOSTERONE that chemical that makes us men do crazy things without considering the consequenses just to be better than another man
i dont doubt there are some very talented young ladies out there who are excelent riders but at the top you need to be able to make the bike do what it's not actually capable of doing and thats where the chemicals take over
look at any bike/motorsport do you see any female F1 or touring car or LE Mans drivers (im sure some clever dikie will list a few off) but they will not have been top in the class they just dont have that elbows out your not getting past me win it or bin it chemically imbalanced attitude
however they do a great job of holding the brollies

Cheers to that

Would be cool as an example there was that Bird who almost won the Indy 500 and come in 4th in the end so maybe.

laughing my head off ere

I dont want to seem like a sexist but Arryace? im afraid im going to have to agree with you!!! your totally right!! I dont think some women would have a problem with strength, its the lack of testosterone!!! Thats very true what you said about the 'crazy things'

Ps. No offence ladies, come and prove us wrong... lol

I don't really know what to think, it's not the lack of testosterone because there are some ladies who do crazy stuff, Danica Patrick at the Indy 500. I'm not really sure what it is, but something about doing crazy stuff doesn't appeal to the vast majority of women. So perhaps that is it, the lack of testosterone holds back the vast majority of women. But there is always that one in a billion special person that can do what they set their mind to. Some day it just might be a girl, it's impossible to know.

See, I dont think that the argument for "strength is needed is valid", half of the GP riders are like 5' 2" and weight 9 stone
<
.

There are plenty of female bike racers at club class out there, and biking IS getting more female riders passing their test (I know this for a fact in the UK).

What would the argument be if making comparisoms to other uni-sex sports? Football, rowing, running...................are these sports more inclined to well training atheles, who have natural skill, ability & fitness...........or do they need hormones to make them go the extra nnthh degree?

I still think a sexy female GP rider would bring in a SHED load of media attention & sponsors...................but I guess this thread is gonna boil down to men vrs women drivers/riders age old debate
<

Having said all that, I have a friend who rides a fazer 600.............she's road testing an R1............I'd be .... scared of flipping the bugger! The sales guy in the shop was very patronising apprantley.

its not thier riding ability many women are more than capable of riding quickly and you dont need a great amount of strength unless you are picking the bike up out of the gravel its more about stamina

...........Paula Radcliffe?

bottomline with me is that they r not as strong as us so would struggle, to b competative they would have to b same weight as the men and to b on par with strength they would b heavy so not competative..

Some women have more balls than men, women do have more get up and go, but in a man made world its hard for women to get noticed the same.

Anyway i think a woman would bring a lot more spunk and interest to the sport, which i dont think would be a bad thing.

pinkdots ur right in a way of bringing sum colour and spunk bit who wants another
slow rider going round and round and round, its just my oint of view but a woman WOUDNT be competative.. no offence meant
<

It COULD happen, it comes down to talent. Any person can develop the strength and stamina to manhandle (No pun intended) the bike through rigorous training, but it comes down to whether or not the person has the pure talent to ride. I think the reason we don't see any real fast women is because motorcycling is not a hobby, much less a sport that is promoted in the direction of women.
