I've never been much of a 'joiner' and have little use for the typical "We Won!" sports fan. IMO, it's sad that people need to identify with some 'hero' or team in order to feel good. Aren't people already jingoistic and tribal to the point of self destruction? Why encourage it?
I just want to see hard, close, and fair racing. The personalities and politics don't much matter. Sure, there are several riders with personalities that I lean toward, and a few I'm less than thrilled with. Once on the track however, I'm cheering for anyone who is in a position to mix it up and have a go.
I've never wished for anyone to actually crash, nor do I cheer when someone falls. I will admit to a certain warm fuzzy feeling when Peddles tried to hump the air fence at Germany last year.
(This is not to say I'd feel much sympathy if he was injured.)
In short, I'll root for anyone except Pedrosa. He's the only rider who's acts and words (and those of his evil master) have earned outright contempt - I think he's a despicable human being. And, no, this has nothing to do with me being a mild Hayden fan.
