<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE (mylexicon @ Mar 12 2009, 06:27 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}><div class='quotemain'>I don't care if they continue the 600s vs. the Buell either, but I'm not sure it's feasible.

A bone stock Buell puts out as much power as an old FX 600 (and it appears as though they may have reduced the state of tune of the old FX bikes). Buell can't really race a bone stock machine, a stock machine not meant to be ridden hard for over 2 hours without modification. Even minimal engine modding would give the Buell extra horsepower.

An 1125R, Suzuki 750, Ducati 848, Aprilia RSV, all have similar power production. It seems like lightly tuned 750s vs. big twins is a formula for some really good racing. Especially if they group them within a few hp of one another.
Im pretty sure the GSXR 750 has been excluded for Daytona Sportbike. This is something i came across a while back. These are stock numbers

Dyno numbers are apples and oranges in the best of circumstances. That said, the following numbers come from PR sources and an independent dyno facility:

'08 Buell 1125R: 146 horsepower, 82 foot pounds of torque

'08 Honda CBR600RR: 105 horsepower, 46 foot pounds of torque

With the legal modifications, the Buell should easily put out 160 HP and the 600's around 118-120,maybe 122.The old FX bikes were pushing somewhere between 140 and 150,depending on the team,so, the new 600's are not FX machines, they are the old Supersport bikes.Add to that,Buell got a weight exemption,Aftermarket showa suspension {if they promise to use them in production bikes down the road}Air Box exemption and i think a wheel exemption. They are so far outside the spec its not even funny and it smacks of DMG trying to manipulate the outcome of races. From the Dec tire test to the March race,Buell picked up 10 mph and knocked 3 seconds off their test times, courtesy of DMG. I still think the Jap 600 will clean its clock in a season but if were the OEM's,i would pull my bikes AND MY MONEY and tell RE to kiss my rosy red ....The MIC or someone needs to be working on an alternate series as we speak.Last year, there wasnt time, now there is time

Good thing Buells are so reliable that I don't think the extra ponies will make much of a difference. Ah, can you imagine the PR of having to explain your machine's fairing coming apart?

In fairness, I think one of the Erion or factory Hondas had an exhaust pipe come loose at Daytona recently. I want to say josh Hayes last year in supersport (?).

Mechanically, the Buell/ Rotax engine made the 200 miles with no problem. The regular 65 mile race should be a piece of cake.Like i said, i think the jap bikes will prevail because of superior riders.I do believe with the right rider, that bike could dominate.

Whens this race???

Yeah that is the teams problem, not a design problem like the buell with its ...... up 2 radiator setup. That thing is just a walking disaster, in the Buells case different does not work.

That article really shows how ...... up the AMA is. Other than the idea that most riders have never had to deal with laps under a safety car, you cannot DQ drivers after the race for violations they made in race.

That would be like changing the results of an American football game over a touchdown that during the game was not called a score. It is a joke.

Curve, don't waste your time even wanting to watch the race. It was a joke from what I can tell. Just pay attention to WSBK and MotoGP. You'll be happy and won't attempt to kill people over the stupidity of the DMG people.

Well, I guess it can only go up from here

I'm gutted for Ashmead, though. Getting stripped of mileage when you're going for the all time record is tough pill to swallow.

I wish you guys would have watched the vids I posted to the AMA conference. They were long but if you watched them, you would have seen this coming from a mile away. At one part in the conference Edmonson is nearly bragging about how he DQ'ed Schwantz and Rainey from an event for passing under caution. It was one of Edmonson's first races as a somebody in the AMA and he prided himself on making the tough decision.

Unfortunately, a lot of people are going to be horse-whipped into compliance.

I don't like it, but if it stops the mayhem during caution and safety car laps, it can only be positive in the long run.
