new version has started.
I'll miss Africa, and I already miss old music.

what made me happy is that Isidre Esteve Pujol, who had bad accident in early 2007 (some of you maybe remember that we talked about it here) which left him in a wheelchair, now returns to Dakar in a car.

there's also Takuma Aoki in similar story.

memento! how can you forget the dutch pride and 500cc rider Jurgen vd Goorbergh
<

I try to follow it as much as I can. we get summeraries every evening (rather late) and jurgen keeps an update on his own website. but thats all we get

I mentioned only people who are in the wheelchair.

on eurosport you have day review + live from the bivouac, every night at 19.00 and 23.00 (-1 hour for UK)

The new Dakar looks pretty epic to me, and all of those guys out there are nutters and the machinary looks brilliant!

it looks like it's pretty tough out there, with all these route shortening and stage cancellations. many big names are already out of the game.

still miss africa though

isnt there an african version of the dakar going on atm too?

I like south america so Im more than interested in watching the dakar
<
love it

Spanish rider in coma
Eurosport - Tue, 13 Jan 21:19:00 2009

Spanish motorbike rider Cristobal Guerrero was in a coma after crashing during the 10th stage of the Dakar rally across the Atacama desert.

Guerrero, 48, was rescued by a helicopter and taken to hospital in the town of Copiapo, the starting and finishing point for the stage.

"Cristobal Guerrero fell during the 10th stage at the 160 kilometre mark," the spokesman said.

"The patient is in a coma and has been taken to hospital in Copiapo where he will undergo a scan."

The controversial race, being in held in South America for the first time, has already claimed the life of French motorcycle rider Pascal Terry and left two British competitors badly injured.

Terry's was found dead in the early hours of Jan. 7, three days after he went missing during the second stage in Argentine Patagonia around 160 kilometres from Santa Rosa.

Paul Green and Matthew Harrison suffered thorax and spine injuries during the rally's first stage when their car overturned.

The race was moved to Argentina and Chile after security fears in Mauritania caused last year's event to be postponed.
